National – The Cannabis Special Committee has specified that cannabis-related business entrepreneurs must be Thai nationals aged 20 years old or above and have never been in prison for illegal drug cases.

Panthep Puaphongphan, a spokesperson of the Special Committee, told the Associated Press after a meeting yesterday, June 24th, that the committee had considered and agreed to classify the qualifications of entrepreneurs for cannabis-related business.

Whether it is selling, producing, importing, or exporting, the entrepreneurs must be of Thai nationality.

What if they been imprisoned in a foreign land for heroin smuggling?

  • What if they have been in prison for a previously illegal cannabis case ????

  • I've met a few foreign ganja entrepreneurs involved in dispensaries startups, and all of them impressed me as the fast talking scammers types that target other farangs. There is a massive new business

Smuggling or trafficking?  Well that would be considered a heinous crime so obviously they should not be considered. Also any position of trust or power certainly not any sort of government office. ????

It plain and simple only Thai drug dealers are above the law in this instance. Oh! I'm not sure if that makes sense? Or $$$

i thought that thailand allowed foreigners to work if it was a job that thai cannot do ?

it is very clear now they can't grow weed...........sooooo

thats the conundrum ...how can you have a criminal case for a legal plant?

Technically, isn't everyone now selling ganga a criminal, that just hasn't been arrested in the past for what they are doing now.

Unless of course, you actually believed people miraculously are harvesting a crop they planted the day ganga was decriminalized.

That's some super fast growing sh!t.  That fact that any of it is available means it was illegally grown.

So much for ability to earn a living, with a skill set you already possess.  To follow up, should they ban car thieves from working for car dealers or auto repair shops.

Along with anyone arrested for petty theft, to be employed for handling any money, whether a cashier at 7-11 or a bank.

Well that's ok because it doesn't count. In fact its considered an additional badge of honour by this corrupt administration.

I've met a few foreign ganja entrepreneurs involved in dispensaries startups, and all of them impressed me as the fast talking scammers types that target other farangs. There is a massive new business opportunity in Thailand, and it's reasonable to let Thais take a big bite at the apple first. This regulation is even more significant at large scale production and export operations. Seems reasonable to me.

I would not be surprised if some of the slimy foreigners running so called property sales and rental businesses here will slither over to the cannabis trade if regulations were not introduced.

Legalization in Thailand is a massive invitation to drug traffickers from around the planet to get involved. Every criminal organization from gangs to cartels are trying to figure out how to get in on the action in Thailand. Thai weed will be a game changer in the global black market for weed. The "good guys in bad guys out" scheme just got a whole lot more complicated ????

Is that because most of the civilized world know that it is actually the bad boys running the country ?

Check and ckeck.   Tao Kae noi-esque Thai edible factory up and running soon.

...eh, will get started tomorrow.   I think for today I'll just smoke a bowl and get a massage, both for health purposes.

This whole legalisation idea has "gone to pot". Excuse the pun.

Those that pushed for it couldn't organise a p*** up in a brewery. Surely they could have drafted a clearer set of laws around this

A lot  of people will end up doing time due to the confusing way this has been implemented.

........with no recent illegal drug case history.........in this country.

Presumably any drug convictions from abroad don't count?

How many countries can you point to where the good guys run the country?  It's a very short list ????

...cue the dialing and endless flip-flopping on said dialing for the next 5 years.

just a reflection off immi. rules and most rules brought in here.

Pretty sure that people will look at that photo in 2, 5 or 20 years and ask themselves "What were they smoking?"

Ah yes, a photo opportunity.

There is a list ?

Would that exclude a certain MP?

asking for a friend up the road.

Emphasis on the "recent"

????

This is a shambles. Stop messing about. Either maintain cannabis as an illegal substance, or make it entirely legal with no restrictions.

Thanks, I didn't spot the caveat.

Worst extreme of either possibility. Nice plan ????
