Well, as a foreigner in Thailand, those people are the ones I follow on YouTube (e.g. Simon Whistler, standup comedians, talkshow hosts, etc.), or actors/characters of my favourite TV shows, and, on rare occasions, other foreigners or Thais I meet for a limited time.

Yes, you socially hang around with people whom you have things in common with , so your common traits could be perceived as being their average and you all have something in common .

  But if you are with five people who drink, one is going to drink the most and one is going to drink the least and only one person can be the average 

Truth in what you say. You can become a bit safe in life and talking to those who are getting out and doing stuff can probably inspire. I like not to try if possible. It's a bit of a life philosophy. Just let life flow. 

Tony Robbins is a bit hypey for me but probably does well to inspire those who need it like salesman and those who just respond well to that stuff.
