Nice dodge.  But I see a leader of a less free country than Hungary getting daily tongue baths from the media and western politicians, as well as many people here.

Did this leader also go and visit Trump in Texas?

  • As per usual admirer of extreme right wing ideologues on this forum. For American citizens and a prior US President to openly cheer on Orban, is IMO, a red flag for the future of democracy in the USA.

  • You clearly don't know what you are talking about and are just parroting whatever you heard on OAN etc TV. Do you happen to have a Thai wife or gf? Orban has plainly come out against "race mixing

Now you're reading Trump's thoughts? Maybe the Jan 6 committee should call you as a witness?

What can I say, it's a talent.

The Guardian calls anyone right of hard line socialism 'far right'. Like a lot of other categories the left like to put people in to demonise their different opinions, far right has become almost meaningless, rather like Islamophobic and racism.

Their articles are free to view. Can you post a few to demonstrate your point?

Orthodoxy means everything to these people - especially low-class Brits - who start taking in socialism along with heir mother's milk.

Obviously mother's milk in the UK is lacking in Vitamin Socialism, given that a centre-right government has been in power for the past 12 years and the last UK government, that one might loosely label Socialist was in the 1970s.

Because one of the main reasons Hungary is partly free is Orban's own conduct, in particular by restricting media and judiciary' s independence. No such conduct by Zelinski.

It seems some people have doubts about it...

I don't get the reference to Australia. We just had a free and fair election.

Nonsense

Well, a fight for part democracy anyway...  Would you say the same if Ukraine invaded Hungary? You would side with Orban since Hungary is by most standards a freer country than Ukraine?

Seriously? Whataboutery is all you’ve got?

The grooming thing is especially vicious and all the rage amongst the now mainstream homophobic right wing Republican demagogues led by DeSantis. They are basically insinuating that all LGBT people are pedos. Very Putin adjacent. Not because they believe it but because they can grift on it.

Not unlike how the left insinuate that anyone who doesn't agree with their views on trans issues, Critical Race theory etc. is a homophobe and a racist.

You now see how easy it is to casually throw out vicious insults with no evidence to back them up. I guess you guys don't like it when the shoe is on the other foot...

Is Victor Orban not far right then? What was it he said, “European countries with race mixing are no longer nations”

He invite fascist leader to his home, praise Xi President for life as great, love fest with Kim, called Putin smart for invading Ukraine and stand with Saudi Arabia and defend the crown prince over the murder of Khashoggi. Republican Party worshipping Trump is a threat and the American voters need to make their stand and voices heard at the ballot box.

Trump is a prime candidate!

Ukraine was making huge progress but being under attack by a huge power next door put an end to that. It jumped in a few years from 35 to 64.  What's  Hungary's excuse? And as the Amnesty report notes, Zelensky's efforts to combat corruption were repeatedly foiled by a corrupt Supreme Court.

Actually, Australia has ranked voting in federal elections. And at least in most of these countries coalitions are assembled so that at least majority of citizens can have a say as to who their MP is.

Really? When Zelensky himself was found to have secret offshore bank corporations both before becoming President and during his tenure?

But still no direct election of the country's leader, which apparently was fascist according to another poster.  Australia also forces people to vote, which is not exactly an exercise in freedom.

I'm into "love-ins"...it's like the '60s all over again; now where's that flower for my hair ????

Of course he is and so is the majority of the US republican party. No need to be full blown swastika to be far right.

When you cannot defend the topic matter deflect and derail par for the course so far with your posts:

EU Catalogs Renegade Orban’s Dozen Years of Democratic Decay

The European Commission’s missive, sent to Budapest on Wednesday, is striking for both its level of detail and its sweep, linking the erosion of the rule of law during Orban’s 12-year rule to graft, the text of the letter, which is dozens of pages long, cites “serious irregularities such as conflict of interest, fraud and corruption, indicative of breaches of the principles of rule of law.”

Hungary is the first country targeted under what’s seen as a belated effort by the world’s largest trading bloc to hold renegades to account in the club of democracies.

“The continuation of the described facts over more than ten years indicates that there is a continued mismanagement of EU funds and a persistent failure by the Hungarian public authorities to effectively protect the financial interests of the Union,” according to the letter, signed by Budget Commissioner Johannes Hahn on behalf of the EU executive.

But this money was the result of his great success as a comedian and tv star. No evidence at all of it being tied to corruption.

They can cast spoiled ballots.

those countries invariably elect a leader by popular vote. The US used to as well.

No, they dont. They are variations of a parliamentary system. There is no direct vote for leader. And when did the US ever elect the President by popular vote? My memory fails me on that point.

Please do some research sometimes.

Only Trump and Dubbya have not been elected by the popular vote in the last century

To my knowledge, the US has never had a popular vote election for president. Hence the federal system. The popular vote has always been interesting, but ultimately irrelevant.

I'm talking about actual outcomes, not the theory. The electoral college has broken down somewhat due to gerrymanders which are just straight out fraud against the nation.

In Australia, the system is not perfect either but at least we have an independent commission doing to electoral carve up.

Only Trump and G W Bush have not been elected by the popular vote in the last century.

US join countries like Myanmar, Burundi, Estonia, Madagascar, Pakistan etc where popular vote not used to elect their President.
