No signs of corruption so far in illegal operation of Chonburi pub: police

Maybe if taking of brown envelopes can finally result in jail time and asset forfeiture of such severe amounts and deserved jail time so Thai it would make others think twice.   And finally skew public opinion. It starts with small things like accepting taxis that won't take a fare or use a meter.  It's all the rule breaking that's acceptable and why many of you live there.

How do you know the architect did specify the "less than fireproof insulation".  Could it have been the building contractor did not follow the architects specifications ?

What "architect"?

This kid seems to be trying to deal with this in the best way a 27 year old can that has caused negligent death. I do not see him as denying the facts - in fact he seems to be facing his responsibilities and must be feeling pretty terrible about this and the somewhat avoidable mistakes that were made. It could have been avoided but it went very bad for every-one concerned ... there are no winners in this terrible tragedy.

You would be a "boss" supporter as well then eh? Not denying the facts? He has copped to negligence and operating without a license. How about wrongful death and all the other greivous damage he caused? Or his families depends on who is copping the wrap. Poor kid

Both the gov and owner are equally at fault for many mistakes….the owners for knowingly converting to an illegal business and the gov for not following up with proper inspections and proper licensure…

And neither will be thrown to the wolves b/c the legal/prosecution are cut from the same fabric…

why very little changes from one bad incident to another…the culture allows them to flourish w/o proper enforcement/punishment which in turns people know they can get away with as much as they can…

simple comparison - driving on Thai roads

I could puke if I read something like that.

A 27 year old businessman with an intellectual development level of a 3 year old? That's supposed to excuse his negligent actions, which caused a lot of people to die?

Ridiculous argument by the lawyer.

Add, 'but he had no intention of having fire and damage to life and limb'.

About the same as 'yes I murdered her, but I didn't really want to murder her so it's all OK'.

Another example of lack of education about how civil society works, what's acceptable, etc.

And of course let's not forget that when kids go to any Thai education institute they are not allowed to ask questions, so there can't really be any expectation that people are well informed.

Where is the blame for the authorities, who either did not inspect the premises properly, didn't inspect at all, or are questionable in their capabilities? They bear great responsibility for this. All public venues should be inspected for safety hazards. This is not the first time something like this has happened.

Those authorities that inspected it and signed it off as a restaurant ?

Pro-tip.... restaurants typically and not line with sound deadening insulation.... I reckon that was added later.

Why aren't public venues like this inspected periodically? Surely people knew what this venue was being used as? There is no valid excuse on the part of the authorities, who share equally in the blame for these deaths.

Thai lawyers are mediation specialist.

That's why they have never lost a case.

What?  You mean, "And?"

Maybe you should look at the post that I was referring to, I think glass qualifies as being windows.

A window is defined as a opening to allow light or air .

Got it Lou?

And this guy is a lawyer? Who said anything about intent? Of course the guy didn’t intend for his club to go up in flames, killing 15 in the fire. But criminal negligence is bad enough as it is. He should not be allowed out on bail because he deserves to be behind bars for quite a while and if he gets bail he will probably do a runner and disappear.

The club that was operating illegally and had sub-standard building materials, according to police, is owned by a 27 year old man called Pongsiri Panprasong - now known in the Thai media as "Sia B".

There are no winners, but there sure as hell is one loser... and I hope he gets hammered with compensation claims and he enjoys jail time.

A committee of wolves to investigate the wolves - seems  a fair way to sort out any conflict of interest.

Do they have many venues like this in that area? it was little more than a fishing place when I used to go there (to go out on a boat). A relatively new and popular nightspot, with little competition, must have looked like a pot of gold to the local police!
