You didn't grasp my point as there are special divisions within BKK !!!

Oh I am aware of that. These vehicles most likely use is as part of that "Praetorian Guard". Based inside the city they would be easily bottled up by large scale protests. Based outside, nearby and close to good road links they would give you a highly mobile armoured reserve with a bit of punch, which could speedily be deployed to a variety of locations as required.

While the country needs to defend its borders against Burma, Cambodia and Malaysia, for who else is likely to invade, if these vehicles are based in Bangkok it does give the wrong messaging.

The USA must know the Thai military may use them against students so it is also accountable should civilians be injured by these beasts of war.

10 Stryker armored infantry carriers produced in the United States recently arrived at Laem Chabang port in Chon Buri province for delivery to the Royal Thai Army.

Must be nearing the elections?

Only the French, does that count?

True, in more modern times.
However, Ayuthaya (then the capital) was 'sacked' by the Burmese (around 1759) way back when. This disproves the claim that Thailand was never invaded.

Nobody suggests  Thailand was never invaded. The claim is that Thailand  was not colonised (by European powers.)

Yes, I know that nobody on here does, but I've heard that claim in the past.

The RTAF lost a few pilots to the Japanese on Dec 7th. According to the info at the museum. Thailand didn't surrender, oops sign a pact, with Japan until Dec 8th.

Thank you. That was a very interesting link.

I did a search for the Buffel which was a South African personnel carrier and that has been replaced by a newer model called the Mamba.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mamba_APC

Apart from the APC role, the vehicle may also be used as an ambulance, a command vehicle, a VIP transport, or a logistics vehicle.

Probably cheaper and more effective due to the Vee shaped hull containing the troop compartment. That hull diverts the landmine blast outwards and away from the troop compartment.

There is yet a later version called the Nyala.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RG-31_Nyala

The RG-31 Nyala is a 4×4 multi-purpose mine-resistant ambush protected infantry mobility vehicle manufactured in South Africa by Land Systems OMC (the division of Denel SOC LTD, located in Benoni, South Africa) and in Turkey by FNSS Defence Systems.[2] It is based on the Mamba APC of TFM Industries.

The RG-31 has become the multi-purpose vehicle of choice of the UN and other peacekeeping and security forces. It is finding favour with non-governmental organisations requiring a vehicle with a non-aggressive appearance to protect their personnel against land mines.

No, not really .

Thais don't really do democracy and the army sometimes steps in

Thais do democracy when allowed.  But the army, as recently, steps in to protect  their  interests. A few farang fall for royalist and army propaganda and the deeply patronising idea that 'Thais don't do  democracy'. The idea is a foul lie and an insult to the memory  of the democracy  activists slaughtered, imprisoned,  tortured and burnt to death. Any foreigners promoting this toxic idea that Thais don't do or deserve democracy are spreading poisonous  lies and would do well to consider  voicing the army propaganda when in the company  of Thais of whatever  status  or class.

From my observations , whenever there's a Thai Government, either Red Shirts or Yellow shirts in Government . Whoever is in power, the opposition down tools , have street protests and it ends up with violence in the streets .

The Reds and Yellows are always in the streets fighting each other and NOT accepting the democratic election result .

That is why the Army had to step in this time in 2014 , because there was no effective Thai Government at the time

Should be okay in Thailand.

'it's really an infantry carrier that is useful in situations where you're facing a fairly low level of violence, or with an enemy of relatively unsophisticated means.'

The general public.......
