Popular Post webfact Posted August 28, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 28, 2022 By Editor Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport will implement a passenger validation system (PVS) for departing local and foreign passengers at Terminal 4 from September 1. In an announcement on Saturday, the airport said PVS will make the screening of passengers more efficient and boost the airport’s security level to meet international standards. The system has been installed in: • Eight counters in rows C-D for outgoing Thai passport holders. • Two counters in Zone 2 rows J-K for outgoing foreign passport holders. • Two check-in counters in rows L-M • Three counters in Zone 3 rows S-T for foreign passport holders. To use the PVS, passengers must place their boarding pass or e-boarding pass on the reader, and the system will automatically check their travel information. “The PVS will ensure that passenger screening process is fast and accurate, and will prevent unauthorised persons from entering restricted or flight-controlled areas,” the airport said. “This system will also prevent the reuse of boarding passes that have already been scanned.” Officials will be deployed at counters to provide instructions and assistance to passengers. Popular Post khunjeff Posted August 28, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 28, 2022 There's only one terminal at Suvarnabhumi, so I don't know where they think "Terminal 4" is. I've also never heard of this type of system being at the check-in area, and having separate local and foreign zones - in most airports, everyone's boarding pass, regardless of nationality, is simply scanned as you enter security. 7 1
Popular Post Classic Ray Posted August 28, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 28, 2022 I had a quick trip to KL and back last week and found the departure from Suvarnabhumi quite quick and efficient. Just a visual check of boarding pass and passport to enter the Departure zone. Re entry permit process quick, hand baggage/body scanner included belt, watch, shoes, laptop and power banks out, bit more thorough than KL end, small queue for Immigration. on return, hand baggage scanned at KLIA departure lounge, Immigration queue at Bangkok quite short and desks well staffed. If tourist numbers increase may be different, but well done so far. 4 2

dallen52 Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 Zones are entry gate areas. 1 to 8 i recall. Check in desks start at A . Entry point one. The automatic self Check in terminals are already in use. Scan passport. And print your own tickets etc. Put your own bag on the conveyer. Heaps of assistance standing around. Word of warning. If 20kg baggage you will get 0.5kg over allow. If more. Repack or go to a manual check in for assistance and probably get charged excess baggage. * You can drop and check in any time. I was 6 hours before the flight last week. 1 1

This isn't talking about self check-in kiosks - it's about scanning your BP after you've already checked in. The story is so poorly reported that it's difficult to tell just what the purpose of this system is, but it sounds like it will somehow replace the current regimen of some teenage contractor comparing the information on your BP to that on your passport, and then pretending to match your face to your passport photo. 4 2
Popular Post bamnutsak Posted August 29, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 29, 2022 This sounds like an "extra" step/process, after check-in but before security/departing Immigration? 3 2
Popular Post mikebell Posted August 29, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 29, 2022 I accept that I am guilty of Thai bashing on topics to do with police & dogs but I have nothing but praise for BKK. My trip to UK & back was marred only by the service I received on Finnair and the sh1thole that is Manchester airport. I reckon it took under ten minutes to be browsing King Power's monopoly on the outward journey. As a senior I merely mentioned my age to an official to be escorted to a priority lane on the inward journey. 4
Lacessit Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 I guess this means departing passengers will find the process is slower. Stupid question I know, but has anyone done a stress test on the system?
josephbloggs Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 Seeing as BKK has only one terminal where exactly is Terminal 4? Does nobody proof read these things any more? An appalling article which gives utterly confusing information. Seriously what's the point? 1
tingtong Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 On bulk, I find most of the time the departure faster than the arrival times. 1

Guderian Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 Terminal 4??? The last time I flew, back in the halcyon pre-pandemic days of 2019, Swampy only had one terminal. Did they really build three more terminals over the last few years, and how do you know which one your flight goes from as my current ticket to fly out next weekend doesn't mention a terminal? 1

Photoguy21 Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 Be nice if the arrivals could be speeded up. I have waited as long as 1 1/2 hours to get to the IO desk which after a 12 hour flight is very tiring.

Caldera Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 You learn something new every day. I wasn't even aware that Suvarnabhumi Airport has a Terminal 4. 1
