THE FACTS: Trump’s speech was a call to action — a call to fight and save the country.

“Our country has had enough,” he told those who went on to stage the violent siege of the Capitol. “We will not take it anymore and that’s what this is all about. To use a favorite term that all of you people really came up with, we will stop the steal.”

'If you don't fight like hell you're not going to have a country anymore'

Lots of quotes there but the most crucial one is omitted, yet again:

“I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.”

I suggest that you are being disingenuous by mis-characterizing the Jan 6th to suit the Republican narrative.  It was not a tourist event, a protest or at worse a riot. You are trying to change the meaning of insurrection, and also by saying that it was not a coup you are trying to further confuse the issue.

Perhaps we need to visit the facts.

The official democratic assertion is that the Jan. 6 insurrection was the 'culmination of an attempted coup'.

Bennie Thompson says Jan. 6 was 'culmination of an ... - NPR

Definition of an insurrection is "an act or instance of revolting against civil authority or an established government.

It does not need guns or to succeed to be true.

Insurrection Definition & Meaning - Merriam-Webster

Definition of a coup is "a sudden decisive exercise of force in politics and especially the violent overthrow or alteration of an existing government".

This event was never described as a "coup" but an "attempted coup". Why waste everyone's time on this?

Coup Definition & Meaning - Merriam-Webster

QED

Assertions aren't facts.

So why haven't these folks laid out solid factual evidence of votes being stolen, vote numbers bein falsified/manipulated (by Americans and/or by the Chinese etc)?  They've had plenty of opportity and plenty of time to lay it all out.

They have laid out some 'evidence' but it falls apart in a second and the folks 'laying it out' have zero credibility.

The balls in their court, what are they waiting for to prove their claims?

November?

Do you Trump supporters have a literacy/comprehension problem or do you just not read anything that might counter your narrative?

Perhaps my subsequent post yesterday to the one you replied to will set you straight.

Here we go with more deflection and confusion!

I only suggested that the democratic assertion from Bennie Thompson was that the insurrection was an attempted coup not whether it was true or not

As for questioning Chairman of the Jan 6th Committee Bennie Thomson's honesty, when the Conspirator-in-Chief who told 33,000 documented lies during his presidency, paradoxical comes to mind.

And on such weighty subjects, what exactly is the GOP 'cure'?

Inflation - a worldwide issue that NO party in power could ever hope of controlling until the Ukraine/Russia war is resolved.

jobs/economy - employment in the US is at it's highest level in a long time, and higher than at any stage during Trumps presidency.  https://www.statista.com/statistics/269959/employment-in-the-united-states/

gun violence - and can we just remind ourselves which party has consistently and callously stopped any attempt at gun control? (hint; its not the Dems). And also criminal reform (in the shape of matters such as bail reform and sentancing) are always opposed by the GOP with again, not a single solution coming from them.

abortion - in an attempt to appeal to the Christian right, the GOP has systematically and cynically eroded the rights of women when it comes to abortion. Predominately red states are leading the charge in making abortion so difficult as to almost make it impossible to get.

Immigration  - the scare mongering from GOP candidates is so extreme it relly should be called just straight xenophobia. What exactly did Trump accomplish with his 4 years? An ill thought out 'extended' wall? Seperating families and locking up children? It's the oldest trick in the book and copied by all right wing governments the world over; immigrants are to blame for your lack of job and/or prospects, not the billionaires and corporations that actually could do something to help.

climate - name one thing that Trump accomplished in his 4 years that helped in the climate change battle? Nothing? Well that's because he did his level best to deny, deflect and overturn policies that could have helped:-

'During his campaign in 2016, Trump had already announced his skepticism of climate change. After he took office in 2017, his administration made decision after decision that slowed or deprioritized climate action. It rolled back policies that helped mitigate warming, relaxed regulations for climate polluters, approved the Keystone XL pipeline, left the Paris Agreement, and more.

All you GOP fans are the first to point fingers without a single remedy from your side. Trump has not ever produced an election manifesto (go on, go to his website and try and actually find a proper manifesto that isn't just a vague 'we will do it differently'), prefering to fear-monger and 'play it by ear' as the mood and notion takes him. His biggest thing is loyalty to him and to his MAGA fan base and he gives not one jot about the good of the average man and for the USA as a whole. It's all about him. A cult of personality with very little substance.

If you think this man and this party are the solution to the problems of the US and indeed the world then when is he actually going to produce something that helps the majority of Americans rather than the stipdly wealthy and corporations. You have been lied to; the emporer really doesn't have any clothes.

Mind putting forth the case as to why sticking with the doddering gent currently occupying the White House is a better option?

To be clear, I wish Trump would go away. He is and will be a net drain on the GOP, plus if he were elected in 2024 he would be even OLDER than Biden was in 2020. He is not the solution, at least in my mind. There are younger and better people available to spread the message of freedom, small government, and country first.

As for solutions;

1. Cancel the Inflation Reduction Act and the American Recovery Plan and the student loan forgiveness.

2. See above.

3. Mandatory prison terms for using firearms in a crime. Increased and better trained police.

4. Leave abortion up to the states. Not a federal issue.

5. Immediate deportation of those here illegally. No "catch and release" for asylum seekers- keep them confined until their hearings are finished. Stern punishment for companies that hire illegal workers.  Guest worker system for targeted industries.

6. Unleash America's energy industry. Don't threaten them with shut downs and then expect them to invest in increasing production. Increase fracking. Build more nuclear power stations. Stop buying batteries and solar panels from Red China.

Trump doublespeak, where he says one thing and then says another to contradict it, and I don't think he does it purposely it is just that he is plain dumb.

He is famous for his lies (30,000 and counting) and doublespeak, and this is no different, and his nut job supporters follow him down the rabbit hole.

So where was the contradiction to that? You don't accept Trump or anything he says. That's all.

Scary stuff finchem appears to be the embodiment of all that is warped about maga and the lies it spreads.

I gave the vdo a fair go but at 8.30 when the guy started spouting such a nonsense conspiracy theory I had to give up.

Trump haters are quick to accuse his supporters of being conspiracy theorists, but seems a few among their side as well.

When I speak privately with fellow officers who defended the US Capitol on January 6, the conversation often turns to why so many Americans remain indifferent about the insurrection. In other words, most Americans just don’t seem to care. An overt attempt to end our democracy? Meh.

Perhaps because no matter how many times the Dems and their supporters say "insurrection", the Americans that remain indifferent saw only a demonstration that went wrong.

People have real problems to deal with, and rightly IMO ignore the attempts by Trump haters to make the proverbial mountain out of a molehill.

Which guy?

Not the journalist I trust, as he made perfect sense from start to finish.

The maga herd on the other hand were completely barking mad, especially the one spouting garbage about Democrats serving the devil or some such nonsense along those lines.

Complete nutter.
