November 7, 20223 yr Popular Post I would find it really weird , being the only older White guy in a Club full of 20 something Asians in Cambodia . Getting on the dancefloor and showing the locals your dance moves

The 20 something year olds in the bars probably have the same opinion about having sex with the older Western guys in the nightclubs

November 7, 20223 yr Popular Post I agree. Thailand's bar prices have become ridiculous. A beer costs as much as a McChicken set. A lady drink costs as much as a month of 5G mobile internet. A BF costs as much as a VIP bus from Hua Hin to Phuket. For more than that, it will cost you as much as an AirAsia ticket to Singapore ( or even further). I mean come on... ???????? Cambodia seems to be dirt cheap in comparison ! However I wouldn't be surprised if Siem Reap was facing the same problem as many Thai cities, namely a lack of tourists leading to a feeling of emptiness.
November 7, 20223 yr Popular Post The partying might be a bit cheaper, the rest is nothing even worth mentioning. You would also pay more for the modern things you do have in Thailand, or the diversity in things you can do and things, services and products that are available. You can just as easy party your head off using anything without police around in the south of Thailand. Or in PTY, wherever. The difference? 20-30 dollars? Nah, I tried cambodia, it is fun if you are stuck at the bottom with a super tight budget only, because then it kind of sucks to be in the more expensive ones. Else you are done with it soon enough.
November 7, 20223 yr Popular Post I go very regularly and my last trip was last month and I'll be there next month. Siem Reap is great for four days and then I've had enough and wish to get back to Thailand. They are suffering through lack of tourism and have not had the huge uptick in customers they were hoping for. That being said, there are a great deal of expats living there that love the place, they are an eclectic mix from all walks of life, not just the Pattaya bar flies. For me at 60 years old, (and a fairly young at heart 60 year old) and fairly healthy, I still yearn to come home to Thailand after a few days. There's only so many temples to see, and so much lok lak you can eat! Pub street has been dead this last few months by the way so I care not what the OP says about it. The Cambodians down there are a very friendly bunch and far more genuine than the Thais. Beer and cigarettes are cheap and plenty restaurants to suit all tastes.

I agree! Spot on regards Scambodia. I don't know much these days though about Southern Thailand as we seldom go anymore as my other half is not keen and says they are just not friendly enough for her.

You seem to miss the point that both Thais, Cambodians and to an extent, plenty Vietnamese, it is a trade off. They are giving youth in exchange for food, drink, money and whatever else life gives to them from older guys. Do you think they aren't doing exactly the same with their own people? Plenty of Thais and Cambodians giving themselves away to higher status Thai and Cambodian males that are older, balding and fat, for financial gain. So, don't put yourself down!! ????????????
November 8, 20223 yr Popular Post Siem Reap is (was) great fun at night, esp pub street. Them multi-storey bar complexes are buzzing, super loud. Also some good eating and cocktail bars. The beer might be cheap but found that 50c/$1 Anchor to be like dishwater after a while. Generally though, Cambodia is pretty threadbare… didn’t enjoy PP ($5 lady drinks) and found it a lot more pushy and can be just as expensive as Thailand, plus you have to keep your wits about you. Pickpocketed first night. Caught them at it and perhaps just unlucky, but not a good first impression after literally hundreds and hundreds of nights out in Thailand without issue. Hasn’t put me off going again, however, and generally found the people very nice. But echoing above, reckon it’s more a weekend place. The lack of services (and 7-11) and obvious poverty will probably grind on you eventually. As for cheap beer, perhaps look to Vietnam… more Thailand’s equal. And yes, it is now relatively very expensive for a beer / nights out.
November 8, 20223 yr Popular Post Good luck when you get sick in Cambodia and need a decent hospital.
November 8, 20223 yr Popular Post Hit Siem Reap for a week this summer. Good points; a/ English widely spoken and understood b/ Generally very friendly folks c/ Renting a motorbike and cruising the Angkor complex was a hoot! d/ Discount admission to the Angkor complex and next to nobody there. e/ Cheap beer in shops , pretty cheap in bars/restaurants Bad Points; a/ In Your Face poverty and begging b/ Limited options for foreign food- what was available was good though c/ Cambodian food doesnt do it for me d/ Bland scenery outside of the temples
November 8, 20223 yr If you like it in Cambodia then that's great! I'm not here to change your mind as everyone is different and like different places.

If I was starting off in retirement now I would spend a few months in Thailand and a few months in Cambodia before I decided. The only really good thing about Thailand now is the safety of being able to walk the streets after dark, but again I do not drink or frequent bars. The good also still outweighs the bad compared to the UK.
November 8, 20223 yr I didn't go for 10 years as i was warned they were always trying to scam you so i left it for 10 years and guess what some classic scams were tried straight out of a book. Anyway, was ok, enjoyed it but not enough to go back. The farang dregs in PP were a bit shocking to me at the time

November 8, 20223 yr Popular Post Many of us are hesitant to step outside our comfort zones, which is why we are exploited and treated as commodities. Never been to cambodia, but the obstacles around us here is certainly on the rise
