Popular Post OneMoreFarang Posted November 11, 2022 Popular Post Posted November 11, 2022 From time to time we have news stories about fights. Sometimes guards are involved and often a group of people beat up a single person. Did you ever witness anything like that? Are you concerned it could happen to you? Personally, I saw this happening a couple of times. And it was never unprovoked. People didn't want to pay their bill, or they though they can call Thais bad names, or maybe take pictures in forbidden areas, etc. It seems in most of these cases the fights could have been avoided by paying the bill, apologizing, and not behaving like an idiot. Personally, I would be careful going into areas with drunk guys who look for trouble. But that applies to countries all over the world. I don't behave like an idiot and consequently I don't get attacked. How about you? Did anybody in Thailand ever attack you for no reason? Did you see fights for no reason? P.S.: If someone thinks they can just walk out without paying their bill then for me that is just plain stupid and asking for trouble. If people like that get beat up, then they deserve it - IMHO. 17 2 4
Popular Post ezzra Posted November 11, 2022 Popular Post Posted November 11, 2022 In all my 35 years in this country i'm yet to witness such event, Thais usually don't beat up on foreigners if at all, and if a Thai start a fight it's mostly because he was insulted in a way or his honor and reputation was hurt... 16 2 5
Popular Post nigelforbes Posted November 11, 2022 Popular Post Posted November 11, 2022 No no and no. Although in my younger days I did once walk out without paying my bill, soely because I was phished and it seemed like a good idea at the time. I really don't know what got into me apart from too much Mekong, I just decided I would leave. I had stumbled no more than half a block when the owner came running after me and ever so politely reminded me that I hadn't paid. Oh, right then, I said and paid up, plus a healthy tip. 2 3
Popular Post Lacessit Posted November 11, 2022 Popular Post Posted November 11, 2022 No. It's not hard to get along here being polite and respectful. 12 years here, have never seen a fight between a farang and Thais, let alone one that was unprovoked. IME ( younger days ) people who go looking for trouble usually find it. 8 3
Popular Post brewsterbudgen Posted November 11, 2022 Popular Post Posted November 11, 2022 Never. Been here 18+ years. I don't think it happens unless there's a "reason". Of course, the reason might not be a good one, but one of the reasons I like living here is the absence of that type of unprovoked violence. Look at someone the "wrong way" in a provincial British pub, on a Saturday night, just before chucking out time.... anything can happen! 14 1 3
Popular Post kokesaat Posted November 11, 2022 Popular Post Posted November 11, 2022 26 years, never. I don't hang around seedy areas, but sure I'd hear of something like that happening in/around Udon. 4

Popular Post Adumbration Posted November 11, 2022 Popular Post Posted November 11, 2022 I have been here a long time. I have been attacked unprovoked on 3 occasions. And for video footage there is no better example of the Australian bloke years ago who was attacked by thugs outside the Taipan??? bar at the end of Bangla road. His crime was photographing the thugs beating on some other tourists. He stabbed the thug that was attacking him (he was a charter captain and had a rigging knife in his pocket). Thug died and he was charged with murder. But luckily CCTVs caught the incident (showing the dead thug entirely in the wrong) and so he was able to bribe his way out, I think the brown paper envelope was to the tune of a million plus. Anyone in Phuket know what ended up happening to him. He had a Thai wife and a large charter business at the time. 3 3 2
Popular Post ukrules Posted November 11, 2022 Popular Post Posted November 11, 2022 No, but once I saw the crowd gathering when it turned out an American tourist had run out of money before paying his bill on a night out. There were about 4 of them, this was in Bangkok. It was in Soi Cowboy and part of a group of bars, I was sitting in the outside bar area at the time, as was the tourist who must have been in his mid 50's. I asked the guy what the problem was and how short he was on his bill - he'd spent about a couple of thousand in this place and was short 100 Baht and they were waiting to pounce on him. I just gave him the 100 Baht and wished him good luck, he paid his bill and was on his way. The gathered 'bouncers' then dispersed - I found this treatment quite despicable and avoid any places run by wannabe 'expat gangsters' these days. 6 1 8

I've never had one problems over that time. I must add though I've seen some absolutely shocking teenage gang brawls where her in doors comes from in the Korat area. 2
Popular Post bob smith Posted November 11, 2022 Popular Post Posted November 11, 2022 yes, i have seen it. more than once. thai's are bullies, especially when drunk and in big groups. but they couldnt fight their way out of a paper bag alone. 1 3
Denim Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 Only seen gangs of college students fighting, never anything else. Having said that , when we lived in Bangkok , one of the wife's friends had her husband locked up after he got drunk and after a heated argument killed the other party.

Popular Post EdrigoSalvadore Posted November 11, 2022 Popular Post Posted November 11, 2022 A fat thai blob-like animal(dressed as a girl) asked me to come close to her, when I did she punched me in my scrotum. The reason: She didn't like that I was flirting with the girl sitting behind her on her bike outside of family mart in Pattaya. Yes, I did beat the blob up afterwards. 1 3

Popular Post Kwasaki Posted November 11, 2022 Popular Post Posted November 11, 2022 All my time here I have a drink with drunken Thais and never seen aggression only them taking the pee out of each other and joking. I was in Maesot walking along by the river it was a lonely place and notice 2 guys behind me i was not sure what they were going to do but i grab a nice piece of bamboo i came across turn and look at them they stopped they looked turned and ran away. I stopped once on a soi in my village and asked a guy to stop hitting his wife and he just turned away and walked into the house she thank me. I once grabbed hold of a guy and put my fist up at him who walked into the restaurant and started punching his girlfriend who worked there in the stomach and slapping her around the head, I just couldn't just sit there and do nothing. I recently had a English twit offer me out in the street in my village over a silly desput and told him he was a silly man and he went away. I havent been set about yet if it happens it happens but I would never do anything to my knowledge to provoke anyone. I've been places at time where falangies are playing up and are out of order so i wouldn't stop them from getting laid into. 3 1
