Police deny extorting money from Taiwanese actress

AFTER A TAIWANESE actress accused Huai Khwang police of taking a 27,000 baht payoff from her during New Year holiday visit to Bangkok, the seven policemen at a checkpoint where she and her friends were stopped denied the extortion allegations, Thai Rath and Matichon newspapers said this evening (Jan. 26).

 

Thai Facebook page Ni Hao Taiwan! I Have Arrived (Hello Taiwan! I Have Arrived) translated the Instagram posts of actress An Yu-Qing, whose English name is Charlene An, accusing Huai Kwang police of having shaken her down for 27,000 baht the night of Jan. 4, a day before her departure.

She alleged that while going back to her hotel in a taxi with some friends at around 1 a.m., police at a checkpoint stopped them and searched her bag. They asked to see her passport and then, according to her, they said her Visa on Arrival is not acceptable, only a proper stamped visa.

It would be expensive but consider setting up cameras or even improvise mobile phones at checkpoint and record these contacts.  This would be one way to prevent “misunderstandings”.

Yep, they can all wear body cams that were not working at the time just like the ones on the streets!

Well I went to the ink and learned little more than 'It weren't me', although some mention of E-Cigarettes is something new. That is an opportunity the police could utilize. I also thought she had been taken to the police station, but the link suggests not.

Interesting the police stopped them recording and forced them to delete recordings.... incriminating in itself.

Don't police wear cameras on their helmets now? Or is that only traffic police? Just have every policeman wear a camera, and if it's turned off at any time then fire them (instead, someone will ask for a bigger share of the shakedown money to make the problem go away).

i was going to say that maybe it would have all been caught on CCTV and the police could prove their innocence by releasing the film. errr..then again.

I was recently at a gentlemen club the girl said " let's go to the corner " there she pull the curtain difference it didn't cost 27,000 and the end of my experience was very positive. ????

Well, the 3.9 billion Baht tourism promotion is apparently not enough so Somchai and Yodsak took matters into own hands ....... well done, keep up the good work. 

Of course it cannot be proven as neither Somchai nor Yodsak signed a receipt and as the higher up also needed to be fed it can safely be assumed, that Charlene sweetie is nothing but a blunt lier. Create two investigation committees, keep 'em busy with some meetings and the result, if ever, will be that might have been a misunderstanding. Alternatively end it by just letting the story disappear into thin air, which it will over time .....

It is somewhat scary, that "innocent until proven guilty" doesn't seem to apply whenever Thai government officials are involved .......... your call!

According to the article:

"Her friends videotaped the conversation but were forced to delete the clips, she said."

 

Just think if they had allowed the filming, all this would have been avoided and the police would be proved innocent?????

The BP reported that the police asked to see her passport which she did not have with her.  They then pronounced her 'Visa on Arrival was not acceptable, only a proper stamped visa.' Where was this VOA if not in her passport?

I remember there was a policeman who announced that videoing an encounter with police is legal. Difficult to do with armed robbers though.

 deleted recordings can often be recovered if done within a day or two . On my device there’s a 'recently deleted" section. Unless the police are aware and make them permanently delete from within that section ..?
