Agreed, WaveH.  Losing interest in this site because it's getting beyond distraction and now simply frustratiing.  Think Aseannow can restrict ads if they want.  Are they allowing or promoting it?

It is entirely up to them how many and what kind of ads they want.

It seems they want a lot of all possible ads.

Maybe there is some competition going on who has the highest amount of space covered with ads.

That stupid yellow overlay "subscribe to our newsletter" can't be closed on my Android tablet. Making the site unusable on that device, because all I see is that overlay and site is hidden under it. ????

Same here!  Very poorly thought out.  Even on a large desktop screen, you have to open the browser full screen to find the cancel button.  On a mobile device, forget about it !@#$%

It is, without a doubt, one of the worst pop-up strategies I've ever seen.  It's even worse than when one of those porn sites gets ahold of you because you clicked the wrong link and when you try to exit, it opens up a dozen more porn sites in your browser tabs LOL!  That will probably be the next step!

As a business person, I think it's sheer suicide to use pop up's for advertising.  There's nothing more infuriating than being on a website and being bombarded with those pesky things over and over!  Who is going to reward that kind of tactic by giving them business?

I remember in the early days, when we all relied on fax machines that used that special paper, there was some fax paper company that would send me sales messages on my fax machine several times a day using up MY fax paper trying to sell me THEIR fax paper!  That's gotta be the stupidest sales tactic imaginable!

The company using up all your fax paper so you have to buy some more (from them)

Pretty funny, isn't it?  Whoever comes up with sales strategies like that are about as smart as a box of hair ????

As a business person, how much would you pay per year to use this website advert free?

I already do that on YouTube.  YouTube got crazy with silly pop up ads almost everytime you chose a new video to watch, and some that would even interrupt the video you were watching.  It's the most disgusting advertising model that's ususally reserved for sex webstes and other super-scammy websites.  It certainly does nothing to boost the credibility of a website, and only annoys and frustrates the viewer!

YouTube allows you to opt out of that insanity for $10 per month with the first two months free I believe...and honestly it's worth the money!

Aseannow would do much better to just offer an opt-out option for a slight monthly fee.  I would pay it if it were a reasonable amount becuase Aseannow's use of these pop up ads is just OUT-OF-CONTROL!  They would probably make more money by offering a "premium" opt-out option IMO.

What (in my view) needs to be said about this has been very well said already, by others. One does appreciate the need for Aseannow to make the moolah to keep the site running, to develop it, expand, etc......but even for a site I feel priviliged to be able to use for free, accepting that ads are a part of the deal, this pop-up lark is getting beyond ridiculous. Sad. ????

Agree, i too am grateful to be able to use this forum for free , and all the laughs, information and anger that goes with it ????.

The static ads are accepted as we all realise how the forum works but the pop up ads are detrimental to the function of the forum, can the owner not see that ??, and surely are making posters spend less time here, I know i am.

We are reminded occasionally not to use an Adblocker on the forum to gain revenue but that request has become an empty vessel as the forum becomes more and more unusable.

Ya know, It might just be my imagination  but I've been on this forum for 30 minutes today and I've seen a significant drop in pop up ads!  Could it be that somebody is listening to us?  I mean, there ware still ads popping up but they are well away from the main posts now.  As for using the forum on mobile devices, teh BRAVE browser that another forum member mentioned, works very nicely...I mean, I don't see a single ad showing up at all !!!  Too bad they don;t make a desktop browser ????

it's bizarre how much of the screen is now taken up by ads of one type or another. i understand the site need to generate revenue but there is a point at which the number and types of ads negatively impact the user experience, and users just take the hint and go elsewhere. with these pop up video ads i'm at my limit. either they stop them or the amount of time i can bear to be on the site will be considerably reduced. (i'm probably here too much anyway). up to them.

You are correct, i use an iPhone and although I had installed Brave browser i hadn’t tried the forum on it  until now.

20 minutes without the pop up newsletter or right hand bottom corner video annoyances.

Happy ????

SO many times somebody recommends an app and it turns out to be a waste of time.  The Brave Browser is not one of them!  I fear it's probably some diabolical Chinese app designed to spy on you or something, but I don't care because it's that good LOL!

I am getting really annoyed with that French bloke with a ginger beard who keeps appearing in his swimming pool trying to flog me some sort of internet business.

Strikes me as a gallic "vendeur d'huile de serpent"!

As others have said, I understand the desire for advertising revenue, but when the ads make the board effectively very difficult to use, as it has become of late, then it must become counter productive.

I don't know how many French expats use this site, but I doubt that many are interested in old "

barbe rousse"!

Now been replaced by some old biddy in a straw hat.

Seriously, the videos constantly running in the bottom quarter of the screen are making it increasingly difficult to use the site.

Many have complained, no notice seems to be taken.

Ultimately I suppose it is all about ????

Agree. Problem is also, if you press the cross, it pops up again and again. Screenshot_20230219_135142_Chrome.thumb.jpg.2cb73d846b4190d5f0727993f463d785.jpg
