British Police say domestic abuser may be in Thailand

Police said Nicholas Cash had committed "abhorrent" crimes against his victim

A man recently convicted of "abhorrent" domestic abuse offences might be on the run in Thailand, police have said.

 

Nicholas Cash was last week found guilty at Bournemouth Crown Court of charges including coercive control, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and administering a poisonous or noxious substance with intent.

 

Dorset Police said the 23-year-old had failed to turn up to his trial and officers were now trying to locate him.

 

He is due to be sentenced on 14 March. The force said it believed Cash, who lived in Bournemouth, could have travelled to Thailand but this could not be confirmed.

If they consider there is a risk of the suspect fleeing the Country they (CPS) can ask the Magistrates' Court to make an order.

Following arrest and questioning you are given police bail to return to the police station on a particular date pending their decision whether to; 1) Take no further action 2) Issue a police caution 3) Charge you with an offence. Sometimes you can return upon that date to be told that they need more time and you are again bailed to another future date. Whilst on police bail they are not permitted to restrict travel.

UK Detectives have just returned from Thailand to  UK following a  years old  lead on some case , it  looks  like they enjoyed their stay and want to return

How does that sit with the central tenet of innocent until proven guilty? Whilst that doesn’t apply in this case (awaiting sentencing) your suggestion is before even being charged !

When I arrived back in the UK last April for a short trip after 10 years away on a passport I ordered in Bangkok the UK immigration officer scanned my passport looked at me and smiled and scanned it again. I asked if there was a problem and he said "just looking at how long you have been away. It's been a while". I laughed and said how much information do you guys have on people. His reply... "We know everything." We laughed and I went about my day. They must know where he is and Thai immigration will know if he is still in the country or not.

How is this suggestion:

After the suspect is charged the police could then enter his information into the border control database and thereby flagging him if he attempts to travel abroad.

So does that mean he was found guilty and sentenced in absentia?

Seems strange that such a serious offence he was out on bail or had his freedom?

And the British Immigration Services do not keep records of who comes in/leaves the UK. This lack of any accurate statistics has always hamstrung British immigration policies.

Seems like a lot of quality people come to Thailand from Western countries.  Not only the ones that couldn’t make it there. That blame their personal downfalls on everything except themselves. But criminals also.  No wonder they call this the LOS.

My understanding is they do not. It's use is suspended by the courts. Use it before the suspension comes into effect and............................
