Popular Post webfact
The leader of the United Thai Nation (Ruam Thai Sang Chart) and Secretary-general to the Prime Minister, Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, gave a hard-hitting speech at a rally in Bangkok on Friday attended by the party’s ultra-conservative supporters and key figures. He vowed to ‘get tough’ on ‘nation haters’ while urging people who wanted to dramatically change the kingdom’s culture and institutions to leave and go to live in another country emphasising that Thailand will never change to suit their desires. by James Morris and Son Nguyen With just five weeks to go to the May 14th General Election, the old political divide is starting to reassert itself as pro-establishment parties seem unable to halt the momentum of both the Pheu Thai and Move Forward parties which appear to be coasting towards a decisive victory in the poll and a new government which ultra-conservative supporters and factions may find unpalatable. A hard-hitting speech at a rally for the United Thai Nation (Ruam Thai Sang Chart) party which supports current Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan ocha, on Friday night, has added to growing concerns that tensions are mounting in pro-establishment circles as the Pheu Thai Party and the other key opposition party Move Forward, a bête noire in Thai elite circles, surge in the latest opinion polls. In the course of the speech, the leader of the party, Secretary-general to the Prime Minister, Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, vowed that any new government formed by his party would get tough with troublemakers and those who opposed the country’s establishment some of whom he also referred to as ‘racists’. Popular Post Andycoops
The old dinosaurs are trotting out the same old hate speech because they are nervous about staring into the abyss. Young people who are the future don't hold these views as they understand the real world inside and outside of Thailand. Rather than the protectionist head in the sand approach by those who dye their hair. 7 2

herfiehandbag
Thank you ASEAN Now for helping me get a handle on the various election posters decorating the roads. The diagonal red, white and blue stripes on the obligatory white zip up jacket identifies ultra nationalist xenophobes, you don't have to get close enough to make out the frothy mouths. Now, who is the hard faced copper with the big hat from "centra casting" who is everywhere - what a miserable looking so and so. Popular Post damian
‘He asked me what I would do if I came to take care of the country. I replied that it was very easy. The land of Thailand, Thailand is for patriots. The land of Thailand is a holy land with the monarchy being the pillar of the country. If you don’t like it, you don’t have the right to change it. Because the whole nation of Thai people wants to keep it like this. If you don’t like it, please go to another place. That is not forbidden. Go. Which country do you like? But Thailand must always be like this. Under the United Thai Nation (Ruam Thai Sang Chart) Party, we will not change. If we are supported by the people of Thailand as the leader of the government, we will deal with racists,’ Mr Peeraphan declared. And here in lies the problem. 2 1

Lese Majeste is only protecting the royal family and not the political establishment....and people get jailed would also got jailed if they say the same about the German/French/American president. 2
kingstonkid
UTN PPP both have the same problem. They are funded by the OLD MONEY rich that do not want any threat to their control. including the guy that is super rich. Will there be big changes in the government if the PT gets in well history says no not really. Under the PT last time there was still corruption. It was still set in place that the rich members of te party benefitted. Education did not improve It just seemed that the poor were getting more. It will be interesting to see who is in power on the 1st of July after all the court cases and counting recounting.

I assume no party will have enough vote on itself, so there will be a multi party coalition with haggling, buying MP votes, changing alliances, etc....So if we are lucky it can be many month till there is a new government. Popular Post ikke1959
It is very needed for Thailand to end the ruling of the dinosaurs and bring the country forward. The old men have already showed in past 8 years that they are not capable of making things better for the people and the country. Constantly a throw back to outdated laws, thoughts, and stop reforming to enter the 21st century. Even the Civil Union Bill/ Gay Marriage was hold back although severl years ago already approved, but they were not willig to implement. So now time for real changes I hope 1

So, political opposing and opposition speech will be labeled "racist" and those voicing opposition to government policy will be labeled "troublemakers?" The way I read this is the avocation of intolerance and exclusivity of any political voice that doesn't align with this party's nationalistic agenda. And you thought the coup leaders are bad? ???? Which leads to persecution of political rivals and the end to any actual democracy. So many political parties globally are showing their true colors as they promote a totalitarian-like resistance to freedom of speech and legitimate criticizes of inequitable polices implemented by their governments. And those voices should be free to express their views and attempt to implement changes to established policies and laws that may not benefit Thai society as a whole. Yet - it seems some of the new political actors want to take Thailand down that road. Dangerous and sad. And with a new ultra-nationalistic, intolerant regime in place? Just wait until the Eye Of Sauron turns toward those of us non-Thais married to Thai wives or retired here. ????
