The United Thai Nation (Ruam Thai Sang Chart) Party video clip paints a dark portrait of political instability and lack of faith in the kingdom if traditional values and culture are abandoned as the opposition, particularly the Move Forward Party, gains ground in opinion polls. Meanwhile, a revered Abbot in Chiang Mai has predicted a return to turmoil and street protests in the aftermath of the General Election next weekend with a return to power of Prime Minister Prayut Chan ocha.

Video clip paints a sombre picture of the country’s future as the PM’s party raises the brooding spectre of political instability as it and other government parties trail in opinion polls behind the key opposition parties which seem to have the momentum to form a new government.

The Prime Minister’s United Thai Nation (Ruam Thai Sang Chart) Party has released a video clip warning of the danger of Thailand reverting to a land of political turmoil with just days to go to the General Election with the two main opposition parties, Move Forward and Pheu Thai riding high in the polls. At the same time, a revered abbot in Chiang Mai is predicting a return to street protests and civil strife in the aftermath of next weekend’s election.

With days to go before the General Election in Thailand on May 14th, uneasiness currently pervades the country’s political scene with all opinion polls showing clearly the prospect of a decisive victory for the key opposition parties of Pheu Thai Party and Move Forward in what is shaping up as a profound rejection of the post-coup government formed in 2019 with parties in that government looking like they will be lucky to gain 20% to 25% of the vote while the opposition bloc looks poised to poll anywhere from 65% to 85% of the vote.

Democracy over absolute rule can be very dark indeed for those who lose power. 

But maybe now it's time for the electorate to prevail.

Dark for the current Pm and his friends , indeed but a glorious bright future for the country and its people.. At last a Government of the people , as long as it lasts,

Military threats from a dictator.

If I can't win the votes I will win by the senate vote, if the senate vote is not enough I will rig the system again.

Hopefully they can vote to oust those 250 unelected senators

Dictators never lose elections

Hopefully we won't be seeing this on every channel after the election...

and then........Thailand goes BANG!!!!!! The writing is on the wall. Which way Prayut responds to it is the great unknown. Will it be peace or will it be revolution?

If Pheu Thai and MFP take the vast majority of votes which is widely predicted, and with Prayuts party failing miserably, yet the senate still swing it for Prayut to remain in power I think there will be riots again.

The people are expecting a fair vote where their voice is heard and respected.

If prayut remains as PM all respect for him will be lost as the people will know for sure there is no democracy.

These negotiations are more than likely already in progress at least from prayut's standpoint to get him back in through minority parties. The group of 250 is already sewn up.

Agree with your 1st sentence but I'm sorry but I can't agree with your last. There is no respect left for him to lose. He is hated by the vast majority of Thais.

The deepest nepotism, corruption, criminal endeavors, manipulating the courts and election systems and wide range of other assorted skullduggery.

If you think things will change with any new government you obviously dont know Thai politics, it's a game of revolving chairs with the same old faces just in different chairs.

Sure.....but that doesn't mean much. I recall the forming of the Abhisit government where they had to take the mobile phones and lock them into a hotel, as Thaksins wife called them one by one and offered more money. And buying out a few of them collapse everything.
The complete system is rotten.
The 250 are not a sure thing. If Prayut is second and best would be with the majority of votes (like last time) they can easily vote for him. But if he is third or 4th it will be difficult to explain. They can't make a looser to be premier .... well they can but I think the wouldn't do it....I hope for some 10 party coalition. Because as more they block themself as less they can do.....as less the government can do as better for the people. (being cynical)

Well I heard the people in my office (in Bangkok, with some southerns) talk about politics and they pretty much like him.

Yes....from 2002 till now I have never seen a government, democratic or military does reverse something bad or expensive from the previous government. Doing some big reforms, changing the country to either more socialist or more libertarian.....no they pretty much continued

Been saying this for years.

The theatre remains the same, just the players change.

The scene is being set for the undercover creation of conditions that will be deemed to be a national security risk and guess what, the security apparatus will kick into gear and we will be back to control at gunpoint. It may not happen overnight but just watch out for a slow moving coup and get ready for unrest on the streets prior to an intervention. The military and their lackeys have absolutely no intention of giving up control wether it is behind the scenes or once more in the full glare of daylight. Don't forget this mob have been carefully watching and learning how their friends in the Tatmadaw regained power and they will do likewise.

"A bright future for the country"......sounds a little naive to me, nothing corrupts so thoroughly like power. What starts off well meaning can soon get crushed under the weight of bundles of 1,000 Baht bank notes. Remember, regardless of which party, we are talking about politicians not saints and the army is always there to remind them where the real power lies, if bank notes wont do it then tanks will.

The electorate can't even prevail in the west, if they could there would be no need for food banks and homelessness, Liz Truss in the UK was shown that the markets rule not the government. In Thailand even the army must be wary of the power of international market forces.

It's pointless arguing with greed, it's an inherent human quality and a bullet has an argument all of its own. Laws never stopped murder or theft and no religion has ever stopped sin. The best we can hope for is the famous Buddhist 'middle way', a little of this and that but not to much of either. The greatest works of literature and philosophy had their birth in evil, heroes need a tyrant to prevail over, the gallant struggles of reform by the workers in the last 200 years needed the all powerful owners of industry and rich land owners to fight. We don't have perfection in the west and perhaps that is a good thing, struggles against injustice are the juices that sustain vibrant life, perfection is the death of society.
