Difficult subject but is a bar girl a Prostitute? In my opinion, they are, you pay for them to provide a service same as buying groceries. You wannt it so you pay for the item.

Disagree, a wife takes a lot of money from you and doesn't have sex with you. Well that's how it worked back in the UK!

Definition of a prostitute is: a person who engages in sexual intercourse or other sex acts for money

Whether a bar girl, bar boy or not, if they match the definition then they match the term.

I prefer whore, more honest sounding

With regard to the words, Prostitute, Bar Girl, and B-girl, I read all of Ian Fleming’s James Bond books while sitting in my 7th-grade classes at public school before they kicked me out and sent me to a prep school for gifted children.

As I clearly recall, Ian Flemming seldom if ever used the word “prostitute”, instead preferring the term B-girl.  You can check the corpus of Ian Flemmings entire work, and verify this if you wish.

Following is a quote from an analysis of Ian’s book, Casino Royale, if you are interested. This might explain why Ian chose to use the term B-girl over the use of the word prostitute.  And, like Ian, I NEVER use the word prostitute to refer to the women working in bars, or even the freelancers, in Pattaya. The connotation of the word prostitute in the context of the Pattaya sex workers is just WAY too demeaning from my perspective.

“In this article we investigate keywords and key semantic domains in Fleming’s Casino Royale. We identify groups of keywords that describe elements of the fictional world such as characters and settings as well as thematic signals. The keyword groups fall into two broad categories that are characterized as text-centred and reader-centred, with the latter providing particular clues for interpretation.”

The above quote is taken from the University of Nottingham/University of Huddersfield article:

A case for corpus stylistics

Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale

Please Note: After being exposed to Ian’s great writing at age 12, my view of women has been shaped accordingly relatively early in my life, and I am so thankful for my boring teachers at that public junior-high school. Otherwise, I might never have had the pleasure of reading the Fleming books.

One other thought:  While at university, I was lucky enough to have a rather famous Linguistics professor. He impressed upon me the importance of always being respectful of others when speaking or writing.  I have always done my best to show respect for others, and I just hope it shows.

Therefore, I would prefer to think of the girls in Pattaya as FRIENDS.

Friend is a better word than Prostitute, in my view.

Friendly whores?

what about a girl you've been married to for 10 years and who decides to step out on the marriage? what would you call that?

the normal world is fraught with peril. so putting derogatory labels is not necessary.

and more bad news. even in prudish puritanical western media, there's some blurbs about how this job is 'normal'.

myself, i've been nomadic for years and years and years. so i couldnt have a normal relationship if i tried.

cat stevens. you can be what you want. there's a million things to be. there's a million ways to go.

Some men want their woman to be excited when they enter the room. Some men don't mind if their woman is only excited when he enters his wallet.

Bar girls/ prostitutes ...well you know which group they're in.

Easy to answer their either Prostitutes or not. The reason i posted this is a Snowflake is trying to convince me there " Just doing it for family " My bullet is she taking monety for sexual favours.

Service worker on more than one field!

Can be anything you like her to be!

Not sure i would want to "walk a mile" in some of the bar girls shoes...it is certainly not all fun, glamor and games for many of them who for whatever reason end up selling themselves to provide for family or kids or hospital stays or a new phone or who knows what causes them to go that route.

I remember a lot of freelancers back years ago in bangkok who i enjoyed the services provided and semi got to know several of them and their life stories......i sometimes think of some and wonder whatever happened to them.  I do know quite a few ended up marrying some farang and moving away...no idea how or if that worked out for them.  I do wish them well.

I personally think a lot of the current crop of bar girls are not nearly as sincere or as much fun as before....but of course I was much younger then and likely more attractive to them and not 3 times their age or double their weight.

To me they are bar girls and i see no reason to call them hookers or prostitutes though of course that is accurate but also a bit derogatory so what's the point in that?

Was this your first crap of the day?

Every woman in the world knows she is sitting on a money earner. They just choose to use it in different ways.

Most bargirls are prostitutes but not all prostitutes are bargirls.

That could apply to a lot of women that are not bargirls or prostitutes and I think it should apply to men as well.

I've known bargirls that don't go with customers, so where does that leave using Bargirl as applying to all?

As usual a load of judgemental <deleted> being spouted.

I quoted the definition of a prostitute. Then I said that regardless of what someone labels themselves (bargirl, barboy or whatever) if they match the definition (of a prostitute) then that is what they are. Nowhere did I say that bargirl always equals prostitute.
