Pattaya — Pattaya Mayor Poramase Ngampiches inspected Walking Street in South Pattaya on Friday, August 25th, after the tourist attraction street underwent a modern upgrade to remove its unsightly power poles.

Poramase, along with other city officials, participated in the ceremony to open Walking Street in South Pattaya following the success of the major dismantling project of utility poles on the street.

The road, for the past few months, had gone through a lot of construction to facilitate the underground relocation of electric and communication cables. Walking Street is one of the nine designated routes in major areas ordered by the government to remove overhead cables, including Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, Pattaya, and Nakhon Ratchasima.

This news will come as a great relief to drunken pickup drivers throughout the area.

OK, as long as chrome poles stay in place.

Soapies on Walking Street????????

Do tell us where they are, as I never saw any there.

As for the mayor, if he could remove the eyesores at the end of Walking Street he might achieve something worthwhile, and how about stopping the beach washing away?

I thought it might help the drunken tourists but the poles have been replaced with electrical boxes in the way!

"We" definately abide that you have much more knowledge and experience on all the seedy ares of Pattaya.

Would have been nice to see some before and after photos...

City officials did not comment on proposals and requests by business owners for allowing street signs at certain heights or new lighting ideas. The recent removal of all overhead neon street signs on Walking Street was a polarizing idea, with some business owners furious.

This article and the celebration is intentionally mixing up 2 things on purpose....

1. The poles and wires...

2. The signs....

Why not have a neon sign removal celibration???

Because they know the sign removal was wrong..

99% of people  it seems were strongly against the neon signs removal.....
The signs were what gave Walking Street its unique characture...

Infrastructure upgrade outside the high season ????

Usually such works are carried out at Christmas time like one week before and one week after...

Let me guess therefore the road to Jomtien will be upside down again, will it?

The polished variety remain.. relax.

Kinda sad in a way - they were a quaint part of scenery that gave some atmosphere.

10 birds on a telephone pole:

Little Tommy gets asked to stay after class.
So little boy Tommy isnt very good at math so his teacher kindly asks him to stay after class so she can help him.  He agrees and listens to the teacher as she gives an example.  She starts off by saying if there are 10 birds on a telephone pole and you shoot one off, how many are left?  He quickly answers "none".   She says "No Tommy, there would be 9".   He then looks at her and says "Thats impossible, obviously if you shoot one off, they would all fly away".   She tells him that she likes the way he thinks.

Tommy follows up by saying "Can I ask you a question miss...if there are 3 ladies holding a lollipop, 1 sucking it, 1 licking it, and 1 biting it...which one is married?  The teacher quickly replies with "the one sucking it".   He looks at her and says "No, the one with the ring on her finger, **but** I like the way you think !"

He's the mayor of Pattaya not King Canute.

Jokes aside, but i can see that a lot of efforts ate being invested in making Pattaya less of an eye sore and more 'user friendly' so credit where credit due and kudos to the Mayer and all who involves in this, keep up the good work.
