Is it just me or is the average expat that lives in Thailand a loser?

most of them seem to have severe mental problems,

alcoholism/drug abuse is rampant.

Now I am no angel. I like a drink and have been known to dabble in substances in the past

but these guys are on another level.

I feel quite uneasy when I chat to a fellow expat, especially in a bar setting.

They always have a story.

most of them come off as con men/wrong uns,

maybe its the places that I frequent, i dont know.

but Thailand is full of farang losers.

People who western women wouldnt look twice at but here they think they are james bond.

What a sorry state of affairs.

That's what you get when you knock about with Yanks.

I usually dont keep any company, but people like talking to me for some reason.

Maybe its the rolex and they think they can tap me up for a pint or 2...

I'd stay clear as well of they can't pick a fake rolex.

Ubon is a dive.

'Spent a week there and then extended. It has a little bit of a low-traffic downtown to wander in and that lovely park with the temple in the middle of the pond.

One of the only places where the night market food is as good as going to a restaurant. They still have the guesthouse above the bar-concept going, a solo travel plus.

Above average mix of Thai-ophile white people. Anyone doing muay thai there instead of in Pattaya is def a Thai-ophile. Some meditators due to the Achan Chah connection.

I was surprised at the number of whities there who were NOT there just to placate Noi.

Your reading versus mine of Ubon is like the old Buddhist joke:

Wherever you go, there you are.

It depends what you are looking for. You find what you search for. We found a night market, food was average. We found a nice looking restaurant on river. Got food poisoning. We found 3 nice temples.

Overall its ordinary.

Khon Kaen is much better. KK has plenty of restaurants and less farangs. Ubon had quite a few.

Ubon is a slower version of Udon. Rather go back to Udon. KK to Udon to NK is easy as linked by train.

I think Khong Jiam and the airport out of Ubon are the best things 55

I've met an uncountable number of guys who were Special Forces, Marine LRRPs, Rangers, Delta Force, or other exotic combat types, although I know that at least 70% of American soldiers are support people, not grunts.

Oddly enough, there are actually more American Special Forces operatives retired and living in Thailand than ever were ever on the rolls of the SpecWar units in the U.S.

Funny how that happens...

How would you know....?

Tell all........................????

Their behaviour…

Reminds me of this purported saying: “ “I don’t want to belong to any club that would accept me as one of its members”

Their desperation for attention. Their obnoxious behaviour.

It's important to note that we do NOT see things as they are.

We see them as we are...

Lame cliche. A black swan is a black swan not a white sheep.

No, members nominate a poster, then members vote for their favourite poster from the list. Was good Christmas fun.

On the other hand, if you live in Pattaya you're probably going to see the worst aspects of humanity. It's just the nature of the place.

I thought pattaya was 'family friendly' in 2023?
