A dashcam captured a harrowing moment at 17:30 on October 1, when a sedan narrowly swiped past a bus in the Pattaya Central Tunnel en route to Chonburi. The car’s unexpected manoeuvre and subsequent overturn could have resulted in a tragedy, yet, miraculously, no injuries were reported.

Emergency services, alerted swiftly, arrived to find both the sedan’s driver and bus passengers safe. The incident, recorded in real-time, offers a stark reminder of road safety's unpredictability. As investigations unfold, the footage stands as a pivotal testament to an unexpected and fortunate escape from what could have been a devastating collision, reported 77kaoded.

Initial investigations involved officers taking photographs of the accident scene to serve as evidence. Both vehicles were then moved to clear the traffic and restore normalcy to the busy tunnel.

The authorities will summon both parties for a detailed examination to conclusively determine the cause of the accident. The incident left commuters and the involved parties in shock but, remarkably, no injuries were reported.

Just hit the wall in a lane change?

As an aside, last couple of times I have been around there, seen quite a few motorcycles going through the underpass.

Nope - the idiot car driver changed lanes while his right rear quarter was still beside the bus, with obvious results.  Begs the question why the car drove beside the bus for so long before the incident, and what was the reason for the unnecessary lane change.

I'll speculate that something happened with the bus earlier and the car driver was trying to pees the bus driver off.

Looks like the typical... car driver cuts in to the bus lane too soon... probably trying to tell the bus driver that he is entitled to the fast lane... not the bus.

date and time on the video are different from the article

Looks like he fell asleep....... there is not a bus lane there, and of course lane changes are not permitted.

Jeez I sincerely hope the cops catch on to the fact that this driver, should NOT be a driver!

Changing lanes in front of a bus close enough to side-swipe it, and then cause a massive accident, is a real good indicator of absolutely terrible driving skills!

Yes, even on the best road in broad light there is always at least one unpredictable idiot around.

Many cheaper dash cams need manual setup of time/date. Often forgotten.

Thai roads are amongst the worst and most dangerous in the world but still patsy and naive tourists rent bikes and cars....at their risk.

You have just summed up 95% of Thai drivers. I am, of course, giving the other 5% the benefit of the doubt at this time.

I've noticed, particularly when bicycling, that a lot of drivers here seem to disregard the back half of their vehicles, be it car or motorcycle. That is, once they have passed you to the point that they can no longer see you, you are no longer there and thus the lane is open and free for lane changes.

Or it could be the normal low grade reporting...... ????

Correct... they are only concerned with what is in front of them.....when they pass you, they become your problem.

More evidence of Pattaya's police force's vigilance on the roads.

No.

The original article is in Thai with the details. The video has been uploaded 12 hours ago from now.

And with the hordes of tabloids/reporters in Pattaya this would not have gone unnoticed in August.

Got you, Thai press, most efficient in the world, never any inaccuracies!

Fake news. There are no accidents in Thailand.

Lighten up chap!

That went as well as could be expected.????

I take it under-taking isn't a crime in Thailand, unlike the UK and other Western countries?

Its not in the UK either on multilane city streets which are not dual-carriageways or motorways.

... So the halfwit driver just changed lanes without any thought to the bus they'd just passed.

The mind boggles at the complete stupidity and absecne of spatial awareness.

The good thing about these videos is that they show us the extent of stupidity out there and remind us to be alert even in the simplest of situations.

In contrast to the West where driving standards are expected to be higher and drivers have a 360 degree field of responsibility, it has been described many times how Thai's seem to consider themselves responsible for the 90-140 degree field of vision in front of them, anything else is someone else's problem....

... This is how you see motorcycles side by side simply riding into each other !!!...

Apologies just re-read the highway code.

Yep.... I do not when on my bike.. and sit at the Klang/Suk junction surrounded by bikes, where the drivers have no helmets!
