Asking expats about LGBT people

Featured Replies

Yes I'm thinking  for a elderly farang friend.

He is 73yo Australian planning to move permanently to Udon Thani with his 36yo Thai Australian Boyfriend

Mostly every year they go to Pattaya

Now he is very extroverted guy who joins community group and local expats groups but I told him ....and I could be wrong...but I told him..."mate in Udon Thani I believe the old expats there won't welcome you being a older gay man!

just give me a rundown you expat older guys ,would someone like Kevin be welcome?

Sadly there are still people who believe in that fictional BS book called "the bible" and its hateful tales.

  • In my experience, his welcome will have so much more to do with his personality and how he treats other people, than it will with him having a boyfriend.

  • Thailand sadly is a paradise for LGBTQ people. Sodom and Gomorrha

I was reading another Udon Thani forum a few years ago and the expats seemed to be a bit homophobic but I'm going back 20 years ago ,it's probably changed in Udon Thani nowadays

I wonder if Isaan cities have gay farangs?

Yeah, it'll be interesting to hear from a member of the Udon Thani expat community. I'd be very surprised if there's any general hostility. No doubt, as is true everywhere, one or two individuals might have a problem.

I didn't know this site was not being used to troll for dates but this is exactly what this OP did

Whilst I don't know the expat community in the city mentioned, i have lived/worked in Isaan for the last 18 odd years. Most people here are either (mainly, not 100%) retired or younger teachers. I would suggest that most will not care that he is gay, but what might give him more trouble, is that he is 'extroverted' because some might have different takes on that and see it as rude, unfriendly, overpowering because they are quiet people (of any gender).

just my two-penneth!

After 7 years in Pattaya --I have now been in Udon for the last 18 years---- your friend must have visited Udon to make the decision to move here.

So he would know there are gay bars / Gay massage etc.

As Mentioned its so much more to do with his personality and how he treats other people, rather than his sexual preference.

Perhaps how 'floral' his extravert behaviors are might also be relevant.

Have you been to Thailand ever? They have ladyboys working in village shops and 7/11s

Nobody cares

Only western countries that are bigoted

Hardly.

Middle Eastern and many African countries are by far the worst. Death sentence for homosexuality in some of those places.

Comparatively speaking "Western" countries are more tolerant than  most.

Thailand of course is similarly tolerant. But I don't thin kthe OP was asking about Thai people's attitudes, rather that of expats in a specific part of the country.

Why you got to mention skin color?

There's a lot of ladyboys doing Bolt in CM.

A lot of middle eastern guys are gay. They hire ladyboys.

Expats? I saw white guys hiring ladyboys there in Udon.

Of course there will be bigots but mostly nobody cares.

Fortunately most expats think that anyone who is LGBTQIA+ is just another person and accept them or not depending on their personality.

Thailand isn't a perfect paradise for LGBTQIA+, but is one Hell of a lot better than most countries.

If you don't like being in a country like Thailand, where  LGBTQIA+ people are accepted, then I suggest you find another country to live in.
