Is there a big bus from Don Mueang airport to Pattaya?

There is no direct bus route which is a real PITA and why i try to avoid DM if i can. I remember once it took me 5 hours to get from DM to Pattaya. What really annoys me as well is that they won't let you take the shuttle bus to Suvarnabhumi on your return.

As others have said, 1,700b is reasonable for a door-2-door service booked by a hotel but if you want to do it cheaper you could book it yourself with Cherry Taxi Services, prices start at 1,400b from DMK... [The hotel will be using somebody like this & pocketing the 300b].

Minivans are really ok,not like before the big clean up.

They do not go over 90km per hour now and the drivers are a lot better......I Thought YOU Were talking about Minivans in General ?? A Little Sensitive Are WE ??

there is a bus from DMK to Mochit, costs about 40 baht, maybe more now.

then Mochit to Pattaya Nua Station (maybe 120 baht?), buses every 30 to 45 min until... hmm. maybe 22:00.

 

OR,

alternative if you need to get to Jomtien, take the bus in DMK to Ratchaprarop (20 or 30 baht ?) and there catch the Skytrain to Suvarnabhumi (80or 90 baht?), and then the Bus to Jomtien (143 baht) every hour, or every 30 mins if many arrivals in Suv. If unlucky, 2 hours wait.

Pattaya taxis made such an impression on me 10 years ago, asking for 300 baht for a 5 minute ride, that I didn't use them since.

Maybe a Grab can offer a good price.

That's the easy part...

 

As the bus pulls into Pattaya Nua Bus Station book a Bolt it will be there in 2-3 mins.  Approx. 70-80B (for a Car) to Wongamat Beach so I would imagine similar into Central Pattaya, cheaper if you're ok with taking a motorbike.

 

Failing that there's a group of Baht Bus drivers there that will drop you off at your hotel for 50B (100B if you're going to Jomtien), but you sometimes have to wait for these to fill up (usually not a problem when the Bangkok Buses come in).

Agreed. I've been riding them for 10+ years.

If you are not afraid of your own shadow they are fine.

I don't see too many minivans being reported on the local news these days.🙃🙃

Every hour or hour and a half until 18:00 according to their website, although I've noticed on the Ekamai route they pile on more buses if they are busy.

Guaranteed door-to-door service and someone to carry your bags and an hour ride for 1,700 baht vs carrying your own bags, train or shuttle in the wrong direction for an hour followed by carrying your own bags again and then another 2-3 hours on a crowded bus that doesn't end up where you want to go followed by finding a taxi that may or may not get the trip right all to save 50% - Hmmmm....

Stick a crowbar in your wallet and start enjoying your trip.

After reading this thread I decided to not take axtaxi this time around and see how public transportation will treat me, as I had the whole day and nothing planned. This was on a monday for reference.

 

I was heading for Jomtien beach and decided I would first head for bkk airport and take the bus from there as that bus end destination was Jomtien (the bus from mo chit stop at north pattaya, close to Central festival/terminal 21 area, so then its still a bit to go).

 

Touching down in DMK I headed to take the bus A3 to Ratchaprarop station. There are plenty of signes to find the bus (exit 8). I had to wait around 5 mins for the bus (stood inside in aircon). The fare was 50 thb and took around 20 mins or so. Bus is aircondition and normal sort of bus. The lady that sold the ticket called out the station, as many people are getting of there.

 

From there it was a 3 min walk to catch the highspeed train (Airport Rail Link) to BKK airport. Just use your eyes. Its impossible to miss what direction to walk as its a big station that looks similar to sky train.

 

The ARL is 8 station in total and I needed to travel 7 station. It cost 40 thb. You pay with cash and u get a small plastic token that u use to get inside to the train. I waited around 2 mins until the train arrived. Also took around 20-25 mins.

 

At BKK airport I headed to floor 1 and baught my bus ticket. And this is the only part of the experience that was anoying. I had to wait like 2.5 hours until the bus left. No idea if this is normal or not. The fare was 143 thb.

 

As I started the trip early (10:00) iit was np to me but if late arrival it could be anoying.

 

Anyway I got me some food and after enjoyed some tv-show on my phone until it was time to leave. There are charging stations around and plenty of food choices at BKK airport.

 

The bus was airconned and comfortable. No plugs to charge so have your entertainment device charged. Trip took almost exactly 2 hours.

 

Comparing taxi and public transportation (the route I took) I honestly think I prefer the public one. One of the reasons is im not stuck with an anoying driver the whole way. Also I can take a break at BKK airport and grab some food wich I liked. I usually pay around 1700 thb for the taxi wich compares to 234 thb for public. That is a 1464 thb saving. I dont hate money so I like that.

 

All in all it was a small little adventure that I, for the most part, enjoyed. I thought I would get sweaty but I was only outside for like a total of 10 mins during the whole thing so was good. From now on ill take public transportation, but only if I arrive during the day time and is not pressed for time.

I should also add that I travel light. So I only had a smaller bagpack and a villa market carry bag with some stuff (not heavy). So no big luggage to haul around.

Regarding the bit I quoted, the timetable is currently showing buses every hour on the hour from 7am until 9pm.  There's normally a sign at the booking desk saying what time the bus they are currently selling tickets for leaves and it may have just been that the one (or two)  before yours was sold out already.

 

If you're prepared to take the risk of losing out due to delays etc you can book on line in advance for a 25 baht booking fee.  maybe even book a later one and try to change it if there's an earlier option for another 30 baht fee.

I have a flight 11:15 and wonder if the 07:00 bus is to be trusted. What do you think? Was planing on booking it online like you said.

Is your upcoming flight from BKK or DMK?  If BKK then I would say the 7:00am bus is fine but risky if it's from DMK.  There's a 6:00am Bell's bus from North Pattaya that would give you more breathing room.
