Pattaya — Foreign tourists, reported to be of Indian nationality, engaged in a violent brawl with Thai people right on Pattaya Beach Road early today, sending shockwaves through the city just one day before its New Year’s celebration.

For those interested, the video of the incident. Keep in mind, although nobody was seriously injured and the video is not graphic, extremely sensitive viewers should use caution. https://fb.watch/pd1DYdAKjL/?mibextid=Nif5oz

On December 28th, 2023, at dawn, local residents and joggers running along Pattaya Beach captured the shocking incident on video, which quickly went viral on Thai social media. The roughly one-minute clip depicted Thai and Indian people, both men and women, exchanging blows in the middle of busy Pattaya Beach Road near Soi 13 in the Nongprue sub-district.

The video showed individuals wielding dangerous objects like sticks over a meter long, belts, glass bottles, and even metal kitchen ladles. The aggressive behavior brought traffic on part of Beach Road to a standstill as onlookers feared getting caught in the crossfire. Despite the distressed cries of women in the vicinity, no one dared intervene, and the brawl continued unabated for an unknown period.

My bet is on gold necklace.

  • Thailand wants mass tourism from India and unfortunately this seems to have attracted the dregs of their society.  Especially in Pattaya.

We don't know what happened, so your judgement is premature.

I personally doubt tourists of any nation would randomly start attacking locals as a group.

Indian's are usually placid. Picking up weapons escalates it, lucky Thais didn't get their guns out

Everyone can relax - no police officers were disturbed by this incident that happened 4 blocks from the police station.

I'm guessing a dispute with a food vendor, perhaps over non-payment for food eaten by the customers ? That would explain the ladles (and ladies in food vendor outfits) and a few locals trying to help out those ladies.

but the incident has cast a shadow over Pattaya’s image as a peaceful tourist destination,

I'm surprised there were no ladyboys involved, this is normally their hunting grounds for Indians wearing gold chains???

If you know Pattaya and go to the bars and chat to the girls almost all of them will tell you the guys they avoid the most are the Chinese and the Indians for many reasons, one of them being they like to slap women about.

It could have been over which country was better, India or Thailand.

I remember staying at the LK Empress on beach rd, and the Indian women would sit at the table in front of hotel and eat and drink their own food. and refused to leave when asked.          This was about five years ago

Yes, I have seen that sort of thing quite a lot of times myself. They appear to feel a right to any seat left out in public, or enter a venue and gawp and refusing to buy anything. A quandary for many polite locals.

Word on the street is that one of the Thais said Indian curries smell funny.

I think it was over an argument about whose food is better, Indian or Thai.

It wasn't worth the ladyboys turning-up; they've already nicked all the chains.

Those Indians proved to be a handful, you see and hear about them often and not good things...

Just another misunderstanding about the war in the Middle East.

One of the Indians said -- Free Free Palestine.

A Thai heard that and said -- No! You f-rang from another mother, no free for you. You pay now!

YOU don't know what happened as you didn't read the link. At least, what an eyewitness reported, Strange term that, eyewitness. How else can you witness something?

Same as Chinese, Thailand attracts bottom of the barrel. I've known and worked with many Indians, shared a house with an Indian family, been on holiday with one, had an Indian boss who invited me to her house for dinner.

So, they stole the ladle, and that is what the fight was over... interesting, or are you suggesting Indians carry a ladle wherever they go... again, interesting. My take is you simply came up with some BS.
