On February 7th, 2024, Mr. Karom Phonphonklang, the Deputy Government Spokesperson, gave a statement for the Chinese New Year Celebration from February 8th to the 10, emphasizing monitoring the lighting of incense, candles, firecrackers, and burning of paper money.

The Deputy Government Spokesperson publicly stated that the Thai government was concerned about the health problems from PM 2.5 smoke on a concerning level.

To reduce small dust particles in the atmosphere and protect the environment, the Thai government asked to reduce the use of incense and to use electric incense instead.

If this approach to the burning problem wasn't so sad it would be funny... please address the real problem.

  • Don't worry about burning the rice and sugar cane fields and all the domestic garbage and don't worry about all the busses and truck belching smoke - just ban incense sticks, I'm sure that will reduce

Don't go up against Big Agra. Don't put pressure on the selfish sugar farmers, who burn their crops and harm their people. Don't put pressure on the huge sugar refiners who buy from these farmers.

Don't worry about burning the rice and sugar cane fields and all the domestic garbage and don't worry about all the busses and truck belching smoke - just ban incense sticks, I'm sure that will reduce the pollution to nearly zero -- can you really believe the stupidity that some of the experts spew out on a daily basis.

I am disturbed how, after living here so long ,such stupidity seems normal.

Just discourage the use of incense. This is who Sretta, the PT, and this administration are all about. Don't address the issue. Don't solve problems. Move the nation backwards.

Woe are the Thai people.

Does the police have access to this app?  Is there a website I could guide them to? How would I check the area around me in Nong Prue?

This initiative is right up there with the BBQ Pork stalls in Bangkok....

Thank you.  My area seems remarkably fire free despite clouds of smoke drifting in from wats regularly burning rubbish.

I think you can filter (no pun intended) the results for 24hrs, now,  etc with the menu in the top right.

Govt Wants People to Reduce Incense Crop Burning for Chinese New Year to Stop Air Pollution

There. Fixed it. Nothing new in the government asking people to stop polluting, of course. And nothing new in everyone completely ignoring what the law and government says. Same old same old.

It's okay. They don't expect anyone to take any notice. But he has done his job by speaking, even if it does make him look like an idiot completely out of touch with reality.

And yet that is exactly my response. BWAAAAHAAAAHAAAA. You can't make this $ht up

Wot! AGAIN!

Agree with all the posters on here re pollution by dirty trucks & burning fields.

I would add that burning incense sticks, good luck papers etc should have been banned indoors years ago but

no Government had the intestinal fortitude to pass such a law

Yes, this will solve the problem of air pollution... LOL - Seems, unlike others, the incense, candle and firecracker makers have not much of a lobby with government politicians. They must have forgotten to deliver brown envelopes...

That's no way to talk about the deceased.

Genius. That guy should set up a Green Party of Thailand and voila all problems solved.

Hard to believe anyone could be so stupid with only one head, but this moron is so out in front he is merely a dot on the horizon. What is even more unbelievable is that he gets paid to say these things....
