GammaGlobulin Posted February 14, 2024 Posted February 14, 2024 I am perfectly OK with eating ALL Thai food here in Thailand. But, what about if a friend of mine asked me to share a dish of steak tartare? Would sharing this dish with my friend be safe for me? Specifically, I am asking about the quality of the butchery, and the preparation of the dish, and then the serving of the dish. So, should I eat it? What do you think? Regards, Gamma 1 1 2

Gottfrid Posted February 14, 2024 Posted February 14, 2024 No problem whatsoever. I have been eating raw beef here for over 20 years. Such as all from the Thai style raw beef they dip in spicy sauce, and tartare to carpaccio. 2 1 1

By the way, speaking of taeniasis, the beef worm, might I ask.... Is this YOU?: BEWARE the tapeworm, my friend!
bkk6060 Posted February 14, 2024 Posted February 14, 2024 3rd world cleanliness and food preservation here. Non refrigerated or properly heated foods. Letting foods like Chicken just sit out for days. I would never eat anything raw here. 1 1

I've been to friends houses and after we have the grilled fish and bbq chicken from the markets ... they will just leave the chicken & fish out ( covered with plastic fly net half moon cover ) and it's left out to have later. I usually stick each plate in a plastic bag and put it in the fridge when no one's looking ... they cannot get the concept that food must be refrigerated 1 1 1 1

If they had, then they might think twice about eating steak tartare.... (Of course, one does not "peer through" an electron microscope.) Still, a very beautiful image. This one was probably made using an SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope).... Enjoy the image... Enjoy your meal, too.... 1 1 2
Popular Post EVENKEEL Posted February 15, 2024 Popular Post Posted February 15, 2024 Then if you keep raw meats in the fridge, they (my ole lady) think it's good there for what seems like forever. Take chicken out of freezer, cook 1/2 and leave 1/2 in fridge. After some days I ask if it's OK, response is it's in the fridge. 3

Thais love their raw food, prawns/shrimps not to mention 'larb moo'. 4

The only reason why, it that we have far too many foreigner in Thailand that feel the need to complain and try to prove that Thai´s are doing everything wrong. I just wish we could put them all on a plane to Ukraine as cannon fodder. That´s what people coming to another country, taking advantage of it where they can and just despise the citizens deserve. 1 2

Beef tartare means it is raw. Chop it & throw it on a plate. Maybe put a raw egg on top. How much work were you expecting?

Popular Post traveller101 Posted February 15, 2024 Popular Post Posted February 15, 2024 I have eaten Steak Tatare on quiet a few occasions and regard the dish as safe, if the following conditions are met. ● The beef (tenderloin, striploin) has been imported from Australia, US or New Zealand. ● The Restaurant has a good reputation and - judging from the high number of customers visiting - has a high turnover of fresh foods 1 2

Thais love their raw food, prawns/shrimps not to mention 'larb moo'. the main difference is in how the animal is slaughtered. meat from professionally grown and slaughtered cattle is fine, but the risks associated with home-grown cattle and home slaughtering are high. and then of course how the meat is stored and sold. if eating steak tartare, use only meat from industrial farms that gets industrially slaughtered and then refrigerated throughout until sold and eaten. 1
