A SWISS MAN and his Thai wife apologised for assaulting and verbally abusing a Thai female doctor who they found sitting and watching the full moon on a staircase leading from theIr villa to Cape Yamu beach in Phuket on the night of Feb. 29, Naewna newspaper said.

This morning the Phuket Times webpage broadcast a press conference attended by Phuket Deputy Governor Amnuay Pinsuwan and Phuket Provincial Police Commander Pol. Maj. Gen. Sinlert Sukhum with this couple apologising for the incident.

The Swiss man, only identified as Mr. David and owner of an elephant camp on the island, clasped his hands together in a wai and apologised to all Thai people for what happened.

He mentioned that although he is a Swiss citizen, at present he considers Thailand his home and did not think the incident would escalate to this extent.

He added that he got emotional because people are always encroaching on their private property with this happening every week. Most recently a group of seven to eight Chinese tourists entered their lawn next to the swimming pool within the villa.

By Goongnang Suksawat

Phuket – A Swiss expat and his Thai wife have apologized to a Thai doctor and the Thai people for a viral kicking incident but the Swiss man still insists he slipped and the kick wasn’t on purpose.

A press conference was held at the Phuket Provincial Hall on Friday (March 1st). Joining in the press conference were the Phuket Vice Governor Mr. Adul Choothong, Mr. David (Swiss national), and his Thai wife.

Mr. Urs Beat Fehr (David), 45, a local foreign businessman who owns an elephant sanctuary said in English at the conference “I love Thailand. I always support Thai people. I am Swiss but Thailand is my home. I did not realize that this incident would turn out to be such a major issue.”

If anybody wants to witness how a tsunami of negative public opinion is created, really artfully and in the span of mere hours, you can have a look at the Facebook page of the father of the doctor that got assaulted. It is all in Thai, but pictures speak a thousand words.

As I mentioned in a post in the other thread, in Thailand your good connections are only worth something if the other side does not have better ones.

This guy, if you go through his older posts long before the incident, has good connections... a poet, experienced with national media, decade-long political activist, and on top of that, birds nests are a gigantic business on Phuket right going back into "old money".

This Swiss guy really did pick a fight with the wrong Thai girl on his steps and by insisting that he will not apologize in presence of the police called after the incident, has opened the gates to hell.

A very good lesson on how not to behave in Thailand. I will find it very instructive, how this thing will end, making a public apology likely does not scratch the surface of effort necessary to get this under control for the Swiss guy (and he still has not realized it, if one listens to what he said).

The above poster sums it all up correctly, no need to add anything to the post...

So, he has a property that has a boundary with public land without fencing or similar then complains people are encroaching.

The guy is a weirdo.

Were you expecting any positive public opinion?

If I was this ladies father I would be active on social media to.

I'd want to tell the world about this bloody monster, kicking my little girl.

😕 Is English your first language? Your question does not make any sense, it is immediately obvious that I do not.

And indeed you are linking to the same Facebook account that I did, so your post does not bring any added value to mine either. 😕

Stick your Wai and apology where the sun don't shine...

If the idiot doesn't get deported he may think about investing in something called a fence in the future..........

An apology generally includes the words I was wrong. It should not simply be sorry but Chinese were on my lawn last week and attempt to justify bad and entitled behaviour. You were wrong mate. You should have another go at the apology and leave out the irrelevant mitigation.

Man up!

No excuse whatsoever. It is directly on to a public beach. If he doesn't want people wandering  on his property he should put a fence around it and a locked gate. However I suspect that he has claimed some public land as his own and didn't want to attract the attention of the authorities. Probably had it for so long that he forgot

The way I understood it on the Thai TV channel, the way his wife was talking, she didn't know she was a doctor, so if she wasn't a doctor she would not apologize?

How bloody stupid are some people?.....Letting such a small incident run their lives, and then go to court. Most people use 10% of their brain...these idiots used 100% and still failed!

It's featured on Ch 34 this morning, report was about 15mins long, says he tripped and showing pictures of his toes 🤣🤣, even did his own re-enactment, using 2 of his male staff, also they are looking into how he apparently knows the high ranking cop, picture of them having a meal together.

He didn't realise the doctor could speak English.

You can tell he's been in Thailand for a long time. Already shirking responsibility, just like the Thais do. "Oh, I didn't actually kick her. I slipped." LOL

Not someone I would like to know or meet....this "David". Some kind of nuisance.

In the Swiss man’s shoes, I would have done the same.

but I sure as hell would not have filmed myself.

schoolboy error right there.

Yes , you scared the Russia's off too , but it turns out the Dr. was not sitting on his land,

the top step is the only one on his land ,so he will have to remove them ,you would actually

kick a woman in the back Bob .....yes I suppose you would ,

This insect species, only started to worry after his stink caused all this publicity. He cares not one iota for his common man. He deserves all the humiliation he gets and let's start calling him out by name. If victims can be named, surely insect perpetrators can be.

Did you cry as hard for the countless foreigners/tourists that have been assaulted and/or murdered by locals here over the years?
