So October last year a Thai lecturer from my local university followed my m/c and ran me down in his pickup, hit and run.

Apparently I bumped his car that made him angry, my injuries 5 broken ribs, broken collar bone, collapsed lung, much lost skin and damaged muscles.

The police traced him from traffic light video, and he admitted the attempted murder.

4 months later ........ nothing ............

 

Why can Thais try to murder foreigners an nothing happens?

But insult a Thai and you will be arrested and deported?

 

Are we less important than dogs?

 

(evidence, police video of the hit and run, signed confession by perp, his insurance agreeing to pay all my costs)

Did you get a good lawyer?

I would not wait for the police to do anything,they may have received some kind of envelope.

No lawyer required as he signed a confession, it's up to the court to proceed.

Imagine what would happen to one of us foreigners if we ran down a Thai because 'we were angry'?

Thailand has never been colonised and part of the reason is the Thais stick together. I dont think it is a bad thing and has resulted in this country that we love so much we have decided to live here.

You have to take the good with the bad, and the good outweighs the bad by a mile. if it didnt we wouldnt be here.

You are more than welcome to suggest an alternative charge if your opinion is different.

The Thai court clearly think it isn't an offense worthy of their time and consideration.

It sounds as though police did not press charges.

Hopefully it's still in their pipeline. Although 4 months seems like a long time, judicial process isn't as quick as we are use to in the West. 

 

For everyone's sake I do hope this idiot is taken off the road for a long long time.

You do need a good lawyer, to make sure they follow up on things and to let him pay for psychological damages too.

Its not just the senseless physical assault here either, knowing who and why must have a psychological effect and harm too.

 

I would be taking it to the press!  exposing this as much as possible.

The police may not have issued any ticket or charge since there is a written confession and insurance covered the damages but without all the documents its hard to tell. There are several advocacy groups on Facebook that you can post your situation on as they are monitored by various govt agencies and seem to generate action to prevent a bad image of the country. If you use one just be careful of your wording due to defamation laws.

The way it was described by you was that you bumped his vehicle before he got angry, not after.

Dangling shopping bag.

It's very easy to bump a vehicle whilst on a motorbike. 

 

You hit it generally with your knees.  If you were to do it with handlebars, you are more likely to crash.

It's more likely he paid the prosecutor.

The police went to a lot of trouble to track him down and collect evidence.

 

If he's important enough to pay off the court, he's probably important enough to pay someone to finish the job.

Not my place to rock the boat any more than it is already.
