What a couple of knuckle heads. I bet they'd never do that back home. Evading police is bad enough but to take the officers weapon? They're asking for it. Throw them in jail and give th

  • ...more than likely the officer got angry and pulled his gun threatening the two tourists who then disarmed him in self defence..IMO.

since i got my Motorcycle thai license (I having only held a car license for 25 years here)
back in Feb 2023 i have not been stopped ONCE at any check point

I think it has to do with a ride a honda wave which are not rented to tourists anymore  🙂

I was stopped on my wife's Click by cops in Chiang Mai at a routine stop ( Thais being stopped too ). Wife forgot to renew the rego so I had to pay 200 baht fine. The cop was polite and did not try to extort me.

I made wife pay me back, which she didn't like much.

No, sorry, but it does say in the article:-

"...the two foreigners were infuriated and allegedly attacked the police while having the incident recorded by the police.

Have you never read a news article that got some things wrong? The article also say the cop pursued them, but says nothing about another cop doing so.

Another post on here said a Thai woman took the vdo.

I'm going to be honest with you

I feel these guys must be counselling in anger management rather than punished

I hope they can meet the officer and apologise and maybe forded to do community service

So the parents own 1 house in Auckland?

I already said that the vdo looks like some amateur civilian hiding from possibly getting shot using their phone camera. I'll withdraw that if it is claimed by the cops that they took it. IMO if it was a cop the assailant was lucky to not be shot.

From the article itself:-

"...the two foreigners were infuriated and allegedly attacked the police while having the incident recorded by the police.

Or to fire another conspiracy theory into the equation, was the whole thing just a set up, with a cop taking the video just making sure that he had enough evidence to convict the "bad farangs"?

Same in Singapore in the 70s. If a cop told us to stop and we didn't "bang".

some interesting comments on the facebook page from Thais  stating the police only stop tourists not the Thais, why is  that, so at least there is some reasoning from some Thais, some of the comments  are really funny...........ban them from coming  again and ALL their family! Another one states Thai soldiers dont  follow Thai law, I  guess that relates to the coup

Amazing how many take the police announcement to be 100% factual

Cops uphold the peace. They are guests. Headlock and gun stealing you excuse? Amazing

It may end one way, but they you give a different outcome.... Again it comes down to what took place before, would you have blamed a Jew from fighting back with a Police officer in the 40s? How about a woman being sexually assaulted by a cop?

Cops aren't Gods, just because they wear a costume does not mean they are untouchable.

How many times do I have to state the obvious - I repeat - That only ends one way, and in many countries in you being shot dead. It really doesn't matter who started it or who was to blame or what it was about. Anyone who fights a cop then runs a very high risk of becoming a victim themselves. Frustrating, yes. But no-one ever wins a fight against the police. Especially in a corrupt third world country like Thailand which has a tendency to throw the book at foreigners even for minor transgressions (Swiss guy, anyone?). Retaliation is self-destructive and puts you in a no-win situation. Always. There is absolutely no point in being macho about it. None.

There is also evidence on the cops phone of the NZs trying to bribe their way out of the final stop, and eye witnesses at the noodle shop where the final stop occured. Hamish and Oscar did a stupid thing and will face consequences. That is a near certainty. As it should be. Should have just obligated the original traffic stop. Everyone knows those stop points are designed to sweep in as many as possible. But they also let go as many as they fine.

Where is that evidence shown ? Just watched the video again but could not hear the NZs talking .

Ok, so the brothers' parents have money money.

"Retired Hamilton multi-millionaires Laurence and Katrina Day say Governments should be forced to listen when the public speak via referendums and they've given $675,000 of their own money to Colin Craig's Conservative Party's election campaign in support of that belief.

Electoral Commission filings yesterday show the couple tipped another $500,000 into the Conservative Party campaign war chest, adding to the $175,000 they have previously donated to the party.

Mr Day, who received more than $10 million for his share of a private training organisation when it was sold recently, yesterday indicated he'll be giving more to Mr Craig's party and said: "Watch this space.""

The cops should be aware of this by now.

But you do not assault police officers. Ever. Anywhere. At any time. For any reason.

This is what you said, and I completely disagree, like I originally replied, would you drop your trousers and touch your toes if the police asked you to?

So we don't believe anything that has been said in the article? Or just "cherry pick" the parts that suits our agenda   we like?

(Maybe the other cop followed on behind - camera at the ready?)

Not doubting you, but I don't recall seeng a post which claims a Thai woman took the video - could you provide a link, please?

Stupid comment.

I was replying to your comment because it does seem odd that someone (Not CCTV) was taking a video of the situation, and from what has been said already, it would "appear that" that person is another cop, and I was implying that if it was,why didn't he jump in to help?

It is reported in various articles from multiple different sources about this incident, that it was a bystander who took the video, not a policeman.

Give you 2 choices-

1 pay 200 baht or so for no licence (500 baht maybe)

2 assault a cop, punch him, steal his gun get years in jail

How dumb can these 2 be?

So one of these guy's cleared the weapon and made it safe....only sensible thing they did.

It's not, you don't comply with tyranny (not saying this was an instance of tyranny before you get confused) when a Police Officer does something to you that is wrong and the only way to save yourself is to defend yourself then you have every right to do so

If you are fearing for your life which might be the case here, might not as well, would you rather die on your knees or die fighting?

No matter what their side of the story is, they tackled and disarmed a police officer who is entitled to use all discretion to arrest individuals not obeying the law.

Say bye bye to Thai poontang boys.

Is there photos of them fleeing? evidence of the Road Traffic Offenses outside of the police statement of this right now?

I've only seen video of them restraining the cop, I'm sure there will be some eye witness statements appear in time but right now there is no evidence of what the police stated happened before the video

Are you a NZ yobbo too.........?  😬

Yes guessing the state of mind is by definition conjecture as we do not know it!!

Ah I missed the recorded by the police, but it still doesn't change what the video shows which is the only evidence at this time but very weird if that was a cop why exactly they didn't draw their weapon (assuming they were carrying) especially when once the guy took possession of it.

".....very weird if that was a cop why exactly they didn't draw their weapon"

Couldn't agree more!
