Plenty of questions still remain over Thailand's defence procurements - submarines, frigates and new fighter jets, GRAB taxi gets it own booth at Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok, more 'rules' for the control of fires in northern Thailand while the air quality remains extremely poor, and a good summary of the 'cannabis situation' in Thailand as recreational use faces new ban.

 

They can deny until the'll go blue in the face, their goose is cooked and the'll spend long time in jail

if only to make an example of such behaviour that will not be tolerated anywhere in the world,

it this case, I'm a 100% on the police side... 

So they had no licenses to drive in Thailand, rented motorcycles anyways, went speeding past a police officer, refused to stop for the police, were chased by the police officer, then somehow thought that wrestling the officer to the ground and taking his weapon was a good idea? Then they are also charged with trying to bribe the officer to look the other way, which didn't go as they thought it would, which is probably what escalated the situation. "The police officer was attacking them" defense is not going to fly, but nice try. Good luck getting out of jail, maybe Daddy Warbucks can find a higher up RTP officer that he can bribe to let his sons get out of the country, then everyone can declare it all a misunderstanding.

When a Thai commits a crime they somehow always confess. Bet the police aren't used to dealing with a plea of innocent.

Time for rehabilitation. 😉

This is Thailand.

Rich people do not really go to jail.

They will be found guilty.

The then appeal and apply for bail (yes this happens in Thailand) 

They will then pay money to get their passports back and promise to return.

They wont return. 

 

That is how it always works for those with money. 

Thais prefer the money. especially the police.

 

You can run over the police in a Ferrari and be freed in Thailand.

At the end of the day these guys did a stupid thing for what ever reason yet to be known

But basically did not harm the cop just disarmed & embarrassed him...

 

But also as you said it will be bought & paid for either way

 

Vorayuth Yoovidhya not only hurt but killed a cop but then a cop ex police chief helped him escape and was never really chased again

Could be true...My license is dual passenger vehicles & motor bikes but perhaps not all are.

 

But as they said in that clip too it is good they also go after rental agencies that rent to folks without showing proof of license

The video looks like the two disarmed the cop and waited for the police to arrive, they absolutely don't look like they were assaulting the cop.

 

I think it's fair to listen to their side of the story.

 

Cops or soldiers pulling out guns, even shooting in the air and behaving erratically is common in Thailand.

 

Also, I wonder how the car chase looked and what happened then, knowing what actions are usually taken by cops here, the car chase may well be characterized as attempted murder if the cop tried to ram their scooter.

 

Speculations, let's wait to hear their side of the story.

You seem to conveniently miss the fact that they stole his phone to delete the video he was taking of them, and the fact that he was indeed injured. They can play the victim card all they want, but they're in for a rude awakening. There is no reason to attack the police officer and disarm him in front of witnesses that so far are anything but helpful to their defense.

Thats were they get a lot of people, yes they have a license but it doesn't cover motorbike, Some farang think that it cover it here

Apparently, not, at least not available to show the police, otherwise why would they be charged with not having a licence...did they show their motorcycle licences?  Having a NZ licence and perhaps not having it in Thailand doesn't count.

The NZ license must specify that it is good for motorcycles and be accompanied by the IDP

 

Sec 42 Motor Vehicle Act

In case of a driver who is an alien temporarily permitted to reside in the Kingdom under the law on immigration may possess a driving license under section 42 bis while driving in the Kingdom. In this case there shall be accompanied such driving license with the document prescribed in the existing Convention or Agreement between Thai Government and the Government of such country for producing immediately to the competent official45.

Did the NZ Guys steel the police officers phone then try to delete photos ? OR...

Did NZ Guy2 pick up the phone which had dropped to the floor during the 'tussle for the gun' and then held on to it to later return ?

An NZ license must specify the classes of vehicles it is valid for. A car license is not valid for a m'bike.

It costs a great deal to get rego for a m'bike in NZ because of the ACC levy and not many ride m'bikes in NZ, mainly gang members and rich guys that ride big bikes in clubs. The smaller m'bikes like I used to ride in my younger days are IMO rare on NZ roads- it's cheaper to register a car and the roads are dangerous for m'bikes, which is why the ACC levy is so high.

 

Also second hand cars are very cheap and big m'bikes are expensive.

... If not, then the guys did not have the correct license and would have been fined for that...

Which is very common in Thailand and probably the very reason the BiB wanted to stop the tourists ? (as they know most tourists wont have the correct license and thus, its a money spinner). 

 

Thats no excuse for the NZ guys to flee of course...  But.. did they flee ???

Did they know the Policemen wanted to pull them over ?

How clear were the instructions from the BiB to pull over / stop ?

Or... Did the NZ Guys see the instruction to stop and just thought eff that, I'm not stopping for this shakedown ?

Why on earth would they think that? IMO they are just stupid thugs that thought they could do what they liked, and thought wrong.

As happens in most countries.  Being remanded in custody is not something that usually happens after traffic accidents, even fatal ones.

I tend to agree ....  their behavior was disgraceful, more training is required.

In many countries a car license is valid for a small motorbike (<125cc engine). As only knowledge of traffic rules is required.

Hope they get minimum of one year jail for this.
