It's ridiculous.  I remember last year I had to take extra photos of putting the kids into bed and cooking dinner for them in the kitchen for immigration. Just close the country and you have no problems anymore with those dirty farang.

You then can start cleaning up your tremendous Thai mess with corruption, human trafficking, prostitution, loan sharking and all other - officially non-existing - issues this country has. The Red Bull sweetheart springs to mind as well as this couple in Phattalung which got booked for years in jail for stealing coconuts and Dr T has not seen the inside of a cell and miraculously got healed of a nasty neck issue on an airport from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. The award of "world's most polluted city" being not disastrous will not interest anybody anymore, as the dirty farang are no longer here to remind their hosts to keep basics in check! 

It is an old warfare strategy, create a foreign problem/enemy to deviate the attention from domestic affairs; remember the Khao Phra Viharn war some 15 years back? 

Same same but different - what a beautiful country run by a tiny fraction of ......... let's not go there!

It doesn't, it just inconveniences a great deal of pensioners who have done nothing wrong but are nearing the minimum limits to stay.

 

The real ones involved in organised crime wouldn't care if it was increased tenfold.

And I was just told off by multiple people that these attacks wouldn't lead to anti-foreigner sentiment and it's all in our heads. Obviously this was going to happen and we haven't seen the end of it yet.

With 40 million foreign nationals coming through the airports, you should reasonably expect some trouble and inconvenience.

 

It's the price you pay for being a hideaway for crooks in the past, much like Spain was, and its famous well-known worldwide Red Light districts of Bangkok and surrounding areas.

 

There are many more good tourists than bad ones.

Hmm? What exactly could have been done to bar the Swiss guy in Phuket or the two Kiwi's who assaulted the police officer from entering LOS?  If one has a valid passport, a valid visa, no criminal record in LOS or in their home country then what other criteria could be applied?  The only substantial thing that could be implemented is to have a fingerprint based criminal background check done for all foreigners who want to enter LOS.  This can be done like in the OA Visa process and in the US the cost is $50 and the turnaround time is usually a day or two.  How many people will want to pay for something like to make a visa exempt entry or even for a 60 day Tourist Visa?  I doubt many will bother and look for other destinations.  

 

I do not see any changes coming.

No, it won't, it will lead to unnecessary hardship on the wrong people.

 

I can afford to pay plenty more for an annual extension of stay, but why should I and what benefit is it?

 

I resent the present rules where you have to permanently leave 400K always in the bank and for five months at least, 800K in the bank.

 

It's daft, I have had separate health insurance for many years, those on the 65K method don't have to do this, so why should I?

 

And no, I don't want the faff and bother of proving the 65K a month method along with proof and paperwork continuously, nor do I want an illegal agent.

The immigration officer could have asked them ''Are you going to be naughty in Thailand'?

Depending on their answer he could then decide to admit them or reject them...

Nature is what it is, you are going to get bad behavior from any nationality. Statistically, I think the tourist and expat population of Thailand, as against the Thai population, explains a lot

Expats in Thailand, estimated 3 to 4 million people. All those figures from government sources.  There is one foreigner for every 2.28 Thais living in Thailand. ( approximate)   I know foreigners are visitors and must uphold the law, but for the number of tourist and expats I think the crime rate is very low in comparison to the Thai population,

Nope.  It was rejected first round for not having these pics. They be the regulations i had to follow. I'm sure anyone on a dependency visa can second this.
