You'd have to be there for an hour yourself to know such a thing.  Perhaps the man you described was intentionally trying to inconvenience shoppers.  This song comes to mind:

  • I do a weekly shop at Big C Extra. I roll my shopping cart into the food court and grab a quick meal before going home. The atmosphere there is relaxed and pleasant. The food is normal fare for a typi

  • I was there today, and you're calling me a "dirty Falang". F you too!   Another "Falang" with a superior attitude.   All I see at the food court is a lot of foreigners (and tourist

Buggered if I could find the jam rolly poly and custard, though!

You spend a whole 55 Baht on a meal and complain about eating with riff raff and the meal was poor, what do you expect Gordon Ramsey and the place packed with multi millionaires ? Ffs.

Can get a much better meal outside for the price, unfortunately my 1st to 4th choices were closed, so Big C Extra a last resort

Version of Thai people's Cheap Charlies, cheap slop

I think some of the newbies gravitate there. Everything is in English, predictable, has the food card system. Also, a lot of older guys that need to rest and take a break after shopping because they are older.

This time of year, all the Malls become a place were people can get out of the heat, and maybe socialize with fellow nationals. It is also a mall easily accessed both on foot and by vehicle.

Distasteful post.

The food Court is for the farangs who can't afford to eat at Cheap Charlies. Best avoided.

Nearly all the food there is Thai.

Did you go there to look at/enjoy the food or the customers?

Who cares who the other customers are in a dining area as long as they are not misbehaving!

He did said Dirty Falang..

I don't think baked beans would be allowed in such a classy establishment!

😁 Images of Blazing Saddles come to mind!

Not to be sniffed at.

If they even eat at all, most of the farangs I see at the food court are they just to sit and chat with other farangls like them for hours, no food trays in front of the lot.

As for the food, it's ok for a quick cheap clean meal, not off some filthy street food cart.  As for the farangs, I'll sit towards the center or back of the court of/when I eat there (almost never) but I do bring my 4 y/o nephew to the playland about once a week.  Old guys on a pension want to sit in a clean air conditioned place to chat with others?  They don't bother me, I just won't sit near them.

I use to have them gill up some food in the meat department and eat in the food court....But they raised the meat prices sky high now....I no longer shop for meat at Big C, I now go to Makro......

I think the best bet now is to get a sub at subway and eat in the food court....That is if you dont mind all the dirty cheap charlie expats....lol

Why adding " just won't sit near them" if "They don't bother me"?

Because they are "Old guys on a pension"?

What do you have against these folks? Their age or their class?

Old guys on a pension, like me, tend to dress nicely (read cleanly,) and mind our own business. Like most customers who eat there actually. And unlike the other kind of farangs: gruffy-looking, sweaty, red-faced ones in shorts and pony tail, running around barking orders in their own language to those behind the counter.

Yeah, what's with that man-tail/pony tail thing?

Probably wearing a wife-beater singlet to boot!

Sorry I had to laugh at your description,  because it's so apt a lot of the times!

Old guys sitting around a food court chatting with other old guys, soaking in free air-con while nursing a single coffee for hours.......

Why this is just terrible I tell you....lol......

Guys give it a rest...

They also go to "air out" their sweaty 15 year old sandals.

Of course, must raise their cankles as high as possible to prevent DVT.

So what if they do?

Unbesknown to your tunnel-visioned farangs, food court is a way of life in the East. It serves a communal purpose and yes, old people are more revered here than in the West.

FYI, by Thai laws the supermarkets such as BigC, Lotus are required to open year round to serve the general populace. MY local Lotus foodcourt for its post covid-reopening had all the (basic) dishes prized at 25 baht and they did that for 3 months straight. Where do you get that in your lovely West?

That is the very reason I never use it, or any other Thai food court.

I upgraded to Sizzler a decade ago and never looked back....

I was in Sizzlers years ago but I always like potatoes cooked in any way with a main meal. I would be a regular if they had that as everything else was great.

Gods waiting room.

Full of teeth pickers and old men with their sandals off.

Place makes me sick.

I can't sit in these places. The people just give off low class vibes.

You are being very judgmental, it’s probably all these people can afford, criticising people you don’t even know, just because they dress down doesn’t make them lower class or bad people, what’s do you regard yourself as ?

If its all they can afford then why is there usually a lady in tow?

Its a shame they can't make an effort like the women do. Both visually and socially. They shame they must endure, being seen with these scruffy people.
