So as this retired  guy today I spoke to.

If someone was robbing a bank or 711 or whatever and was armed he had to standby and wait .....for the armed police

By  the time they came .....

So we have a scenario here ...

A guy with a gun in Country side Australia robs a 711 ....the lone Cop turns up...pulls out his gun for him to stop.

A guy with a gun in some country village in the UK robs a 711 ....the lone Cop turns up......and sits in his locked car ....and observes

Of course he can always go out there with his pepper spray 😉

Ignore my above comment - its too late to delete is now....    I didn't read who the Op was before replying... I should have known better, but certainly do now after the trolling idiocy above.

Edit: & on the same intellectual level as the Op - the UK doesn't have 7-11's !!!...

AND...  Pepper spray is not carried by the Police in the UK.... However, PAVA2 is and is similarly effective.

The Police have become so up there own arce they should not be trusted with guns. Look at Tommy Robinson getting pepper sprayed at point blank range recently. The Police we have now are no good.

What I have seen I. YouTube of UK police is they are useless

Can't fight there way out of a wet paper bag yet Western Australia just employed 500 of these useless morons because Aussies refuse to work in outback Australia 🦘 so they employed 500 ex British police who will probably only last a few months before being run out of these remote country towns and head back to the UK

They are being employed to the Kimberly region of Western Australia, good luck with that ,better then than me

Mind you ....they will have guns just advised not use them in that part of Australia

I recall a day in HK when police did not carry guns.

Sometime since that day, HK police began carrying handguns which they wear on their belts in holsters.

I prefer the UK system where police do not carry guns, but instead rely on the respect for their position among those in society as the means to project their authority.

Of course, I would advise any UK police who intend to visit parts of the USA to carry a concealed weapon.

In the USA, the police don't fool around.

Why?

Watch and learn....

American Ghetto Latino, speaking to USA Police Officer: "If you're going to shoot me, Dude, then just shoot me!"

This particular American Ghetto Latino is such a wingnut.

Can you imagine living in the same country as somebody like this?!!!

Shots Fired!

Shots Fired!

Officer Needs Help!

Oh, God!

Help the Bombardier!

He was saying it's about time they carried guns there , apparently they have to call the armed police to situations.

Guy was lying, 1 in 5 Brit police have a gun secured in the boot of their car.

Why does the poster comment UK cops? He is an Aussie stick to your politics

Because as he stated he was talking to a retired UK cop.

End of last year 100+ London Metropolitan Firearms Offices handed their permits in due to the pending prosecution of on officer in the shooting of a speeding unarmed civilian.

Interesting, year on year there have been less Firearms Officers since 2018 (2841 Pemits), as of April 2023 there are only 2595. This Year's figures will be even less.

Looking at last year's stats, (April to April), there were 18,395 Firearms operations across England and Wales, or which 20% were within the Met. Out of that, only 10 incidents recorded of an officer discharging their weapon. Would be interesting to know the USA/AUS & Thailand stats for the same.

Is the UK safer than other countries, properly not, but good to know statistically if you go out, the chance of getting shot are close to zero.

Close is not over!  The HK Police has been an armed police force pretty much since inception.

You will find the large majority of England and Welsh residents do not wish for generally armed police (militarisation of police).Scotland and NI have separate police forces. Compared to the USA, we have an extremely low rate of homicide and killing of police, killings by police, by ratio of population.

Armed police are relatively rare in the UK. Just 4% of the 142,526 officers in England and Wales are armed (compared to all 708,000 in the US). In England and Wales only 6,677 officers are authorised to carry firearms.

Of these, 2,500 are in the Met, Britain’s largest police service.

https://theconversation.com/the-uk-has-relatively-few-armed-police-but-their-specialist-squads-are-hotbeds-of-warrior-culture-214311#:~:text=of their own.-,Armed police are relatively rare in the UK.,Met%2C Britain's largest police service.

So then, you would say that the situation is sort of like a...

CATCH-22?

a.  The more guns the police carry in the USA, the more police get shot with a gun?

b. The militarization of the police forces in the USA has led to the glorification of gun battles on American streets, COP Shows on TV, and the arming of criminals?

Strangely enough, when I was first in HK, for some years, I do not recall most of the police I saw there walking around on the streets carrying sidearms.
