It's one of those situations that could have been so terrible, but was miraculously avoided.

The world would be so completely different had the Archduke Franz Ferdinand not been assassinated.

The shooter's motive, other than to kill Donald Trump, has not been determined or revealed at this time.  It would be interesting to find out what he thought eliminating  him would accomplish.

This is a great setup for a stable third party candidate to win the election. The underdog party has a good chance of winning if they can remain relatively neutral and draw attention to the problems of the main party candidates.

 

In such a scenario, the squabbles between Trump and Biden kind of converge and work together against them. The specifics get lost and people just move to another party candidate.

Another absurd suggestion. A strong one third party run would send the election to congress as no candidate would get 270 electoral votes, and then congress would put in Trump.
