Bikers Cause Chaos in Pattaya, Police Intervene

Residents in Pattaya, Thailand, have been left sleepless due to a group of foreign bikers causing disturbances with their motorcycles. Early this morning, police closed an alley to arrest the rowdy gang and seize modified rental motorcycles.

 

At 4:49 a.m. today, more than ten police officers set up a temporary blockade in the alley of Soi VC Pattaya Tai, Moo 10, Nongprue Subdistrict, Banglamung District, Chonburi Province. The objective: to put an end to the late-night chaos caused by a group of foreigners riding motorcycles in circles, honking horns, and revving engines.

 

The unruly group consisted of over 50 bikers, many of whom attempted to flee upon noticing the police presence. Despite some getting away, many were apprehended, revealing that most were riding rented motorcycles, many equipped with illegally modified exhaust pipes designed to amplify noise. The disturbances had been a source of significant frustration for the local community.

 

Among the key actions taken, the police confiscated over ten motorcycles and transported them to the local police station. Owners are now required to present proper documentation and pay fines under the Traffic Act to reclaim their vehicles. This serves as a stern warning against similar future conduct.

 

Interestingly, during the police operation, some young tourists, aged between 18 and 25, tried to bribe the officers with sums ranging from 2,000 to 3,000 baht in a bid to get their motorcycles back. The officers refused, advising the offenders to return to their lodgings and follow the legal process to retrieve their vehicles.

 

This intervention by the police seems to have momentarily restored peace to the area, with local residents hoping that such responsive measures will deter similar disruptive behaviour by visiting tourists in the future.

It's not very interesting as it happens all the time.  What is newsworthy, is the last sentence.

Find out their nationality then get tell the owners who rent them out that if they rent out to this nationality again the bikes will be confiscated and put in a crusher. Sorted.

I can only assume the rental companies modified the exhausts from the original  shouldn't they also be forced to restore them to the original?

If not the same noisy bikes are back on the street and the noise continues.

Most bike rentals have bikes that are obviously modified, beer can size mufflers. The police should go and test all the rental bikes for sound pollution on a regular basis, and do the same at checkpoints around town.

If your bike is older than 5 years you must go to testing station every year, 90dbl is allowed

This is literally the exact same area where they had a similar incident what, a week ago ?

And you can bet it's the same "demographic" again. And it's a problem that has been happening in that same area since before the covid lock-down.

locally known as soi Arab.....draw your own conclusions.....been a nuisance for many months but the BIB do not crack down hard enough....

Same news every year with the same results. Nothing is going to change until they continually monitor the situation and impose hefty fines on the drivers and the rental companies.

Despite it being extremely anti social and incredibly annoying to the point where I'm reaching for my Magnum .44, it's no more than what thousands of Thai wai loon do, and many foreigners of many nationalities and age groups also. Easy to stand unseen up on Sukhumvit or wherever with a noise meter and flag them as they race past and catch them down the road. 1000 THB fine and present the bike within a week to check no more mods.

My Bolt taxi deviated through Soi VC area a few days ago. More barber shops and Arabic signs than you can throw a stick at.  Plenty of said muppets on bikes, and my driver showed them no mercy - cutting a few off and blasting his horn with pleasure.

Sounds like fun...I must take my old truck out that way for  run!

(I would regard it as revenge for my times driving in Riyadh and Kuwait City,)

It's a difficult problem to solve, as most motorcycles in Thailand have exhausts modified to make a very loud noise.

They clearly said, "the OWNERS" must come and collect the rental bikes from the cop station. Negotiations will ensue.
