How many Thai islands have you been to?
Just back for Koh Phagnan, Zen Beach -stunning, low development, hippie vibe with a drum circle, tiny high street, 4* Indonesian restaurant. Indo food really goes well with a beach stay. Been to most of the rest. Koh Chang was my favorite all arounder until I tried Zen beach. 'Prefer Samui to Phuket, but don't get the Phuket hate. The little historic downtown is nicer than more renowned Penang. Left to visit: Koh Kood and Koh Lipe. Both of which seem very honeymoonish. Awaiting a worthy girlfriend to give them a try. -

Economy Thailand Rejects 0% Tax Deal with US, Cites Risk to Local Farmers
Exactly. Shouldering farmers with more debt to compete in an unwinnable trade war is unsustainable. Thai farmers will lose as they are competing against mega-corporations. Eventually Thai farmers go broke, sell their land for satang on the baht, as large corporations roll in. If you ask me - that IS the plan. Smart farmers will turn to boutique farming and will control the both the farming and distribution system from the ground to the either the retail end-point or directly to consumers. Small farmers will go underwater and be bought out. Thailand would be better off to go Zero Tariffs and 100% free trade and let the chips fall where they may. Thailand needs to promote what it is good at selling. Protecting small crop family farmers is a dead-end. It's just a matter of time before corporations control all but "boutique farms." I have no sympathy for Thailand which has enjoyed decades of unfair tariff advantages. Now it's time to pay the piper his due. Those days are over. -

Report Thailand Bets on Medical Tourism to Revive Economy
Health care in Thailand is becoming increasingly expensive for foreigners. For most expats, apart from Americans, health care "back home" (apart from dentists) may be cheaper than in Thailand, especially for the elderly, retirees or those receiving government social security/welfare benefits. For example, as a retiree in Australia, the maximum I would pay for filling a medical prescription would be about Baht 160. -
