Pattaya Official Seeks Justice in Sea Urination Row

In an unusual turn of events in Pattaya, Sawate Permpoon, the chief of Jomtien Pattaya Municipality Office, found himself embroiled in a confrontation with two Thai men who allegedly urinated in the sea. The incident, which took place on Sunday, October 13th, began when beachgoers reported the inappropriate conduct to municipal officials, who responded swiftly to the scene.

The clash escalated when Sawate confronted the men about their actions, which he noted tarnished the city's image and violated the Cleanliness and Orderliness Act. Attempting to uphold local ordinances, Sawate reminded them of the importance of maintaining public hygiene, especially in tourist areas. Unfortunately, his admonitions were met with defiance and even hostility, which resulted in a heated exchange captured on video.

Despite the municipal office's authority, the situation took a legal turn when the two men refused to pay the imposed fines, citing a lack of cash as their reason. Instead, they opted to wait for a court order, thereby delaying any immediate resolution. In response, the Pattaya Mayor, Porramate Ngarmpichate, stepped in, summoning the pair in hopes of resolving the dispute amicably. However, as it stands, the matter remains unresolved, with potential legal actions pending.

With his public campaign inspired by this incident, Sawate seeks to impart a broader message: urging both tourists and locals alike to consider their actions and help preserve the cleanliness of Pattaya’s beaches for everyone’s enjoyment.

There are no public beaches without toilets in Thailand, if you do not go to remote islands. However, there you can find accommodation areas that have a toilet you can use. It might be a 100-200 meter walk to a toilet, but I guess most normally intelligent people can manage that.

That just shows where Thailand stands regarding civilization and respect.

That´s also disrespectful and uncivilized.

An easy fix, just wade out into the sea until you're waist deep then you can piss to your hearts content. In stating that please no strangling mocking birds.

That’s not true. I can think of more than 10 public beaches that don’t have bathrooms without even trying. Also many that do can be a half kilometer walk with no signage.  Maybe you meant to say beaches in Pattaya all have them?

The investment in tourist industry shows again a lack of toilets.. These boys stand at the edge, but how many will go in the sea even on busy days and lots of people on the beach?? Solve problems by investments instead of making money because you lack to dosomething

What is the fine for peeing in a swimming pool then???

  • Popular Post

I do not see any harm in what those boys did. Pattaya sea is a big toilet anyway as well as a giant trash bin as seen by the floating trash the boats pass by on the way to the island. The only harm would be if they were flagrantly showing their peckers to tourists and Thais while they pissed.

Not what someone taking a dip in the sea likes to see either.

Pi$$ing in the Sea in Pattaya / Jomtien can only improve the quality of the water

Thailand in good company. Perfectly normal in the France of my youth - men pissing in shop doorways, beside the road, against any wall anywhere ...

It's mostly only over-anxious Anglos who worry about these things.

Just adding to the discharge from the sewerage works that flows along the beach...what's the problem?

Might as well have a crap if your going that far out.

People do too. Only usually they're bathers and divers.

First off, I appreciate the integrity and dedication of Sawate Permpoon. He did his job and acted to protect the beach.  To the people laughing this off, these guys are the same types who toss their cigarette butts on the beach and who litter. The don't care and the only way to correct their behaviour  is to do this.

This area reportedly has a large number of visitors who would prefer to see and to handle as many knobs as they can. The entry in Wikipedia states "As of 2019, Most of the gay life in Pattaya has now relocated to Jomtien."

The aptly named Dongtan part of Jomtien beach is reportedly popular with gay people and I do note the Wikipedia entry that states that "Jomtien Beach is known for its water sports", so perhaps these men were influenced by the beach's  reputation. In any case, I doubt there would have been much to  look at. 🫢

Most beaches have a toilet somewhere, why are they to lazy to walk to one?

Notice what a fuss occurs when someone refuses an 'on the  spot' fine probably wihout a receipt  and elects to go to court for a relatively minor offence.

You even have the mayor's

intervention.

Nothing  to do with bringing attention to the lack of public toilets on beach road.  would it???

I think thats an appropriate observation for normal heathy men. Ruins the ambiance.
