A young British boxing hopeful was found lifeless at the swanky Vogue Hotel in Pattaya, Thailand.

 

The grim discovery of Joshua Goldstone in the early hours of Wednesday, October 30, has left friends and fans reeling, as the boxer’s Australian mate is battling for his life amidst the scandalous surroundings of a potential drug overdose.

 

The 21 year old fighter’s body was discovered on the fourth-floor suite of the lavish resort, lying face-up next to his 27 year old Aussie comrade, Jayson Tonkin.

 

Friends have taken to social media to express their heartbreak.

“Rest in peace. It’s shocking news and so sad. You will be missed by many people.”

 

With Tonkin in a deep coma, the future remains uncertain for the Sydney-based Muay Thai fighter.

Reports suggest the pair consumed a deadly mix of marijuana and illegal ketamine. Officers have swept the scene, confiscating drugs and paraphernalia, yet found no signs of a violent altercation.

 

In a bizarre twist, Thai police allegedly initially bungled the announcement, misidentifying Tonkin as the deceased. Police Lieutenant Thanawi Yarangsi clarified the confusion, while other officials insist a drug overdose seems the likely cause of this tragic event, reported the Daily Mail.

 

While family and friends hope for Tonkin’s recovery, the boxing world is left questioning whether he will ever step into the ring again.

Original story: Australian man dies of suspected drug overdose in Pattaya hotel

 

An Australian man died today of an alleged drug overdose in a Pattaya hotel, according to a heavily intoxicated friend.

Officers from the Mueang Pattaya Police Station and rescuers from the Sawang Boriboon Pattaya Foundation were called today, October 30, to investigate the death at a hotel on Pattaya Sai Sam Road in the Bang Lamung district. The dead Australian man has been identified as 27 year old Jayson Peter Tonkin.

 

Tonkin was found lying on the floor, wearing black shorts and a waist bag, but was shirtless. Police did not detect any signs of struggle or theft but found ketamine and cannabis in the room.

 

Tonkin’s friend was present at the scene and was reportedly drunk when speaking with the police. Rescuers provided first aid to the deceased’s friend and rushed him to a hospital for a health check.

 

Hotel workers reported to the police that they heard a noise coming from the foreigners’ room and went to investigate. They encountered the dead man’s friend standing outside the room, shaking. He asked the workers to check on his friend, who had suddenly stopped breathing.

The hotel staff did not feel safe investigating the room themselves, so they called officers from the Mueang Pattaya Police Station to the scene.

 

Following the discovery of the drugs and his friend’s intoxication, police suspected that Tonkin died from a drug overdose. However, officers have not yet concluded the case and were waiting for the deceased’s friend to be sober enough to attend questioning.

Please think before offering negative condemnation. Consider the facts as reported. Consider the drugs implicated; marijuana and ketamine. Yes, we all know ketamine  is deadly. However, there is no mention of the toxicology tests to determine  drug levels in the injured/deceased. How about waiting until all the facts are established.  Look at the room. Does that really look like the  "suite of a lavish resort". How was evidence secured when a photo of somchai is on display? And so on.

No.  Because it isn't.  It's a 1000 a night hotel.

I know a few people who'd consider a   1,000 Baht a night tariff at the upper end of their budget.

 

 

Very tragic.

Yes they were playing with fire but we all make mistakes especially when young.

 

However -- overdose of cannabis is not life threatening.

Everyone has been warned to avoid drugs in Thailand.  Also, folks, you need to understand that all drugs that are snorted is spiked with Fentanyl at this time.  So, avoid putting stuff up your nose.

Yes, I prefer the suppository method when in Pattaya.

Notice there is absolutely zero mention of the police determing where they got it. 

 

They were probably used to weak, “stepped on” ketamine from overseas and the ended up with the real heavy duty stuff from a dealer in Thailand.

Na, Ketamine from where he is from is not "weak" and hes previously said he was addicted to meth on a podcast ... These lads didn't die from some K and weed, they died mostly likely from Fentayl cut K or Meth and his mate is in a coma because had more of a tolerance to opoids.

 

I've witnessed coupous amounts of  Thai women half their weight go through bags of the stuff and it's rarely dangerous, espically not for two season drug users. The amount of K they would have to put up there to be fatal would probabbly not be possible before passing out in a "K Hole". We are in this horrible Fentayl era where society wish they had the drugs of the old days, as some comedian once said you could see crack heads in the hood still alive at 70 and now people are dropping dead left right and centre just being around a bag of Fentayl or zombie looking cities in NA.

He spared his family the misery of being manipulated and bled dry by a junkie.  It's better this way than had he become a toothless layabout, begging and stealing to get his next fix. Imagine Hunter Biden, but without money for hookers and blow.

How many tragedies will it take for people to understand that drug use can be lethal and at "best",  end up in completely wrecking the user's judgment, behaviour and brain ?

How can one conclude  ketamine was directly  involved until its presence at the necessary levels is established?

 

I bristle at the Thai police conclusions that are released before there has been a thorough medical exam, and a proper investigation.

Two young men in a  basic hotel room with a large unmade bed, and possibly some marijuana and ketamine in unidentified quantities.

Ketamine is favoured by "partiers"  for its psychoactive effects that include of euphoria, and vivid dreams. Sex workers like ketamine because of its calming effect and  ability to provide a separation of mind from the body, that facilitates actions that might otherwise not be done. 

 

Even the commenting has gone to <deleted> here... No consideration for the young live lost, nor the other in intensive care - hurrah you on your high horses - hope your deaths will be remembered the same you mocked others.

Where did you get this nugget of information from?

50 fights by 21 years old is not realistic.

In reality, there is no records of him in https://boxrec.com, showing that he has never fought in a professional boxing bout.

 

He did however partake in a professional kickboxing match in May 2022, which he lost by a unanimous decision.

So, not a boxer, not a hopeful and definitely not a high level pro.

 

 

 

 

 

It's pretty messed up.

You'd think (normally) that an athlete who obviously has to train a lot and keep in excellent physical condition wouldn't be messing with drugs at all.

Tonkin was supposed to have a match less than 2 weeks ago (cancelled due to flooding). You'd think it would have been rescheduled to happen in the near future.

I don't know what the drug/steriod policies are for the different Muay Thai fighting organizations in Thailand and Cambodia are but even if they don't care (or test) - cannabis and ketamine wouldn't be something you'd expect a professional fighter to be using.

Got to love the "experts" who think there's no way that the ketamine found in the room could have anything to do with one of the guys being dead and the other in a coma.

There's a reason ketamine is a Class 1 drug and it's not because it gives a "calming effect".
Sounds like something a ****ing drug dealer (or junky) would say to try and justify their own actions.

One would hope that the media follows up on this story - but "This is Thailand" and following up on stories seems to be taboo here for some reason unless the subjects do something else "newsworthy".

Like the Canadian found dead in his apartment a week or so ago. Chances we'll ever hear what the cause of death was (after the autopsy) ? 
Between zero and not a chance in h3ll. Because no one will follow up or report on it unless it's something really strange or exotic.

If Tonkin recovers, we may get an update - or a report of him being charged for the drugs.

Otherwise we may never know what really happened.
