Pattaya Beach, a once serene paradise for tourists and locals, is now teetering on the edge of chaos as unlicenced vendors run rampant.

 

Once discreet, these sellers now brazenly set up stalls along the shoreline, peddling kratom-laced cocktails and alcoholic beverages, ignoring the law with apparent ease. Despite frequent police patrols, vendors openly resume business the moment officers leave, leaving residents and tourists baffled by the seemingly powerless enforcement.

 

The personal consumption ruse has become the latest trick in their playbook. Vendors disguise alcohol and kratom drinks as if they’re meant for personal use, only to resume selling freely once the coast is clear. The scene isn’t limited to drinks either. A makeshift market has emerged, with beach chairs rented out to sunbathers, transforming the beach into an unregulated hub of trade.

 

 

More than just a nuisance, these unregulated activities are also creating serious disruptions. Food and drink vendors with pushcarts, and even motorised vehicles, have joined the fray, parking on the beach roads and causing traffic jams. Local drivers and tourists face increasing congestion, a frustrating experience in what should be a relaxing environment.

 

“This lawlessness isn’t just a petty nuisance, it’s a public safety issue,” said one frustrated visitor. “Traffic is blocked, there’s nowhere safe to walk, and the police don’t seem to be able to control it.”

 

As Pattaya Beach’s illegal vendors continue to defy enforcement, questions arise over the effectiveness of current policing efforts. With public order and safety hanging in the balance, residents are calling for urgent action to restore peace at one of Thailand’s most popular beaches, reported Pattaya Mail.

Here's a few Baht in an envelope to turn a blind eye. That's how businesses  are allowed to operate in Pattaya

What about all the big talk about promoting Pattaya as a family resort?? Now . we that live a few hours drive from Pattaya have to reconsider going there for two - three days with our families?? This is easy to fix! High fines and arrest if they return should be enough! Confiscating their goods is also a way to go! Doing nothing means only one thing.....corruption"😆

Waiting for RTP to issue statement:

There are no illegal vendors in Pattaya

(there is also no prostitution, or gold chain snatches either, it's a family resort after all!)

Do I really need to go to Pattaya to tell the Police how to solve the problem? Just arrest them one by one, fine them 50,000 Baht, and confiscate their stalls. If they reoffend, jail! Problem solved!

The world class unregulated hub of trade no less 🤔

I think the author of this article didn’t quite manage to hide the pro government stance 🙂

 

If everything was regulated, Thailand would just be another European country.

 

Where is the excitement in that?

 

Let's just appreciate the hard-working vendors who are there at an arm's length when you need something.

That is the law of Thailand.  Share your illegal gains and legalize them.  Until the Chinese take full control we have to suffer this corrupt regime.

They can't solve all the bike rentals parked 24/7, continuous biker racing, they drive down in a small pickup then back to Soi 9 for the evening this isn't a real police force it's an corrupt inept force.

Doubt most of them could muster 5000 baht.  There is an eversion in Thailand to destroying people's livelihood.... and liberal marketing is part of the freedoms here. What were they expecting when they made the Beach such an open space, and the streets a traffic jam.

Myself my wife and unborn child are shocked at these scurrilous allegations we to to pattaya beach to lounge in the CoCoNut Bars golden sands and crystal water...never have we experienced anything like has been described

A very simplistic view if serious. Illegal goods cause a  blackmarket controlled by gangs who then fight over territory and violence becomes inevitable.

This is Thailand. An easy-going attitude to some unharmful aspects of law and order is part of the culture, and why many people enjoy life here. If you don't like it go somewhere else.
