Be fair. Those assaults were 25+ years ago. It was a different era. They would not  get a pass if they did it now.

Sexual assault is a part of the Egyptian culture, so he may have believed he was doing anything wrong.

In Egypt, sexual harassment is a major public threat against women for which there has been no sustainable policy or practice. Such harassment can range from verbal to physical—the latter of which can lead to severe harm and, in some cases, murder. According to a 2013 United Nations report, nine out of ten Egyptian women have been sexually assaulted—ranging from simple harassment to rape. This demonstrates a real problem that requires rapid and sustainable solutions, policies, and advocacy work. There has been extensive public discussion on the topic for the last couple of years, and the state has denied the breadth and severity of the problem.

Sexual assault is part of Egyptian culture?

In that case, if he did this in Europe, officials would apologize for the cultural insensitivity caused in arresting him, and let him go free.

The solution is simple: make the punishment for (provable) physical sexual assault punishable with hard labour for (5) years. Problem solved! No man will dare to go near a woman ever again.

See what money can do in a democratic country.

The same applies to Thailand, which is not a democratic country!

So same, same but different. Don't get hung up on democracy, it's just another name for mob rule and the mob is easily led, if you have 10 road sweepers and one professor of economics you'll have a road sweeper as your Finanz minister.

What about men when they grope bargirl in bars ?

Amputation ?

If they amputated all the bar girls that grope men in bars and even walking in the streets none of the bargirls would have any hands left.

It would make bringing the drinks over very difficult for them.

The question was whether people agree with amputation for groping , rather than who does the groping

Thanks for your question.

I vote no.

The bargirls enjoy it when I give them a grope and a bit of a tickle, finger up the date, fondling etc.

All part of the experience and a lot of fun and keeps the drinks flowing.

Then he should have check the laws in countries he intends to visit.

Ignorance is no excuse.

Scum he is.

Be fair: Jimmy Savile was not Egyptian, and sexual harassment is a major public threat against women in the whole of North Africa, not only in Egypt.

And the Middle East and let's not forget India and Pakistan.

Some Polynesian islands ,it is common for girls to be grabbed and pushed into the bush and raped, it is called Push , Push, in the bush, and no one seems to care.

A rather big stretch calling Thailand a democratic country? Military takeover just around the corner and don't forget the current government was not the government that won the election.

Be fair?? To Jimmy Saville?? WHAT THE ACTUAL <deleted>, any average person would have lynched him if it was their kid and they found out what he did

Do you remember Jim'll Fix it? Primetime TV on a Saturday. My God, what were they thinking?

'Jingle, Jangle, jewellery, jewellery'. I have a letter here, it says " Dear Jim, can you fix it for me to be buggered by a rubber faced, white haired wrong 'un, smoking a cigar and wearing a spangled tracksuit?"

"As it happens....."

But they have to match it to an address.

Possibly done in minutes, or even seconds, via Immigration's database?  All tourists entering the Kingdom have their faces and fingerprints recorded and (in theory at least) their address in Thailand is also recorded.

Rumour has it that the Bar Girl population of Pattaya has doubled over the past months as soon as news of MalcolmB's presence got out...   They couldn't resist - nothing to do with desperation and having zero other options... they all wanted their fair share of lecherous Malc's fumbling mitts !!

Back the question: No, lopping of an arm is excessive..  but, neither do I agree with deportation, those charged with such crimes need to face a real punishment if convicted and not just sent home.

They don't record an address on entry. But I guess a TM 30 tied to a passport photograph, and then a match via....what? AI? Matching that blurry CCTV capture could be problematic.

Anyway, for me the mystery remains unanswered.
