I want to have a go at making Prosciutto Cotto and need a 3kg leg of pork that looks roughly like this:

 

 

I can't see anything like it at Makro and it's way to hectic in there to start trying to explain what I need.

 

Are there any places to buy such a thing in Pattaya? I can order in advance, not expecting to find that off the shelf, so to speak...

Big C Extra on Pattaya Klang? If possible, maybe take a Thai speaker to help.

In Pattaya, I don't know, but in Bangkok have butchers who will have pork leg that size, and will send to you in Pattaya.

 

I frequently buy from -- and recommend -- the following butchers:

 - Sloanes

 - The Accidental Butcher

 - Paleo Robbie

 

5+ years of experience with each of those: all good.

 

Picture below is cooked, but all three above may have un-cooked, just must ask.

But be prepared, prices at those specialty butchers not the same as Makro.

 

  - Old Curmudgeon (in Chiang Mai)

 

Try the Muslim quarter, Pattaya Tai and Second Road area. It won't be Halal, but it should do the job.

I'm confused. All supermarkets I've been in have a 'real butcher' counter?

There's a farang owned food shop that specializes in meats/pork, etc over on the Darkside, maye stop in and speak with the owner.

No need to pre-order. At least one of the vendors will have it.

Many butcher counters but  very few  real butchers, even less know  what cuts of meat they are selling

I remember him.... I think it was carrefour then buy he stayed on when changed to BigC.

Guy the Belgian Butcher at KPN on Soi Town in Town.

 

He'll get it for you if he doesn't have it.

 

Could probably make Prosciutto Cotto for you unless there's any real need to do it yourself?
