I want to be a teacher

Please tell me the next steps to being a English teacher in Asia not particularly Thailand

I'm thinking Myanmar , Vietnam, Cambodia,China , Mongolia?

I wonder why there are no foreign English teachers in the Philippines or are there??? Please let me know

What are my next steps?

Can I just have a TEFLA or CELTA certificate?

What do I need exactly?

Is age against me?

What's the easiest country to be accepted?

I am excited about this

Step 1. Forget it.   Step 2. See Step 1.   Step 3. Grow up.

  • First go to university and learn to punctuate, spell, and use grammar correctly. You can get your point across but your ability to write in English is quite poor.

Would not last 2 minutes, terrible mannerism.

Just start finding dumber than you who got some bucks to spend and you're in business!

Don't teach English English, teach 'merican. Much easier on ears and shorter sentences.

For home work demand listening and watching TikTok 4h a day.

In most countries you need a degree and no criminal record.

So, do you even qualify?

There is a gap in the market in Pattaya for a teacher, teach Indians walking etiquette, do classes

Get a job in the mines.  Pay is better and you might be able to save more.

In ten years you should have enough to retire.

Keep dreaming George ,it's never going to happen ,your too old ,

you will just have to keep pushing the mop ,till your retirement,

or if you win the lottery ,which ever comes first. you should have

made different choices earlier in your life, or married a very rich woman.

In my view, at this late date, on either IS or IS NOT a teacher.

Teaching is in the blood, you know.

You can't just take a TEFL course and then call yourself a teacher.

How many foreign languages do you speak, for one thing?

Do you speak them fluently?

I would say, in addition, that you need to know more than your  students, which might present an insurmountable barrier to many wannabe teachers that arrive in Asia.

I would not get too excited, if I were you.

Teaching is not about instant gratification and immediate success.

Also, you need to find good students.

You might not always find good students, so easily.

Teaching rotten students is a thankless task.

Teaching for free, as a volunteer teacher, may not provide you with the type of lifestyle of which you may dream.

Then, one requires great patience and empathy for students, not to mention a thorough understanding of their culture.

When one speaks of the excitement of teaching, this mostly derives from seeing faster progress than one had originally anticipated.

As for me, if I were to teach, then I would only accept GENIUS students from China.

All others, I would cast aside.

I am too old to teach dumb ones.

Do you think that I could marry a rich woman...

Is there still time for me?

Also, how can I find one here in Thailand?

I am being completely serous now.

After having been single for more than a decade, to date, I am ready to take the plunge...if....

She has enough money.

Seriously.

Also, I would not spend too much of her money.

I am no Gold-Digger, by any means.

Do you have a college degree? A BS or BA not a certificate from Auto Body Repair School>

Are you a native English speaker?  That means UK, US, Australia, NZ, Canada. Some schools will take other nations if you have a high enough score on the TOEFL.

How old are you? Over 60 makes it very difficult, schools are reluctant.

There is some flexibility with some schools, but if you miss on all 3 it's gonna be tough.

As to the Phillipines, they teach a version of English starting at first year of public school so they consider their homegrown teachers to be qualified and don't seek native speakers.

If you are serious you could start looking at the "teachers wanted' ads on a website with the word "ajarn" in its name. You will see what schools are asking for.

A native-English speaker is one who was born into a well-educated English-speaking family, in certain parts of London, but not all parts.

That is fascinating.

Always love to hear the phony pontificating of a pathetic wannabe intellectual.

However, the point under discussion is what schools require of teachers.

Their definition is the one that is pertinent, not yours.

Originally, I had thought so.
