Replacement registration plate

Featured Replies

Afternoon

I have the police report for my lost plate and I'll order the replacement in the next few weeks. I have to wait around 2 months for a replacement so I'd like to put a temporary plate in until the new one arrives.

Is there anywhere who make up a temporary copy to use in this time?

Thanks

Why do you want to put a fake plate on ?

The OP may want to specify his location.  There's a few shops in Bangkok Chinatown that pound out plates in the wide open light of day.  I suspect there's more, perhaps closer to the OP's home range.

No need to, police report is enough to show at any traffic stop, had the same experience last year. The number plate has to have the official stamp on it, do so at your own risk, they could empound your bike for a fake number plate

I don't in the long term, I just want to put it on until the new one arrives.

Yeah ok... not sure why you want to put on an illegal plate but search FB ... there is places that do em.

There are many places you can go to make a registration plate , no big deal , had done before , don’t need police report

Seems you have ordered a replacement number plate from your old province rather than re-register your vehicle in Chonburi or where ever when you would have got new plats straightaway. Well that is what I think happened. Please advise if that is not the case …

I went to the local police station who said it needs reporting to the province I bought it in and by the registered owner. I asked the registered owner to report it to the PS in that province which he kindly did. So, I have the police report from there but I'm certain only the registered owner can apply for re-registration.

I really don't see why I can't get this done in any province here and they order the plates but there you go.

I lost a plate in Hua Hin last year, went to the police station (Hua Hin ) and got a report, went back home and reported to Ayutthaya DLT, took 90 days but the police report was with me if i needed it.

Incidentally, cost me 105 baht whereas my bil paid around 850 baht !, only difference being his car is financed, some mark up !!

To deflect slightly, my registration plate is now 17 years old, and the black numbers are worn to the point of it being unreadable at a distance. I was told by a Thai that it is illegal to repaint them. Is this true?

They touched mine up with a black marker when I had my car checked for the annual tax.  So, no, I'm sure it's not illegal.

Which I suppose leads to the next question: Is it illegal to have an illegible plate? and who decides when it's too far gone?

It is illegal to repaint the numbers in the plate. However my wife bought a marker pen on Lazada and repainted ours. She did a great job, you wouldn't know the difference. It's your call
