775 people who will decide casino gambling in Thailand.

Hardly seems an adequate analysis.

Well then actually leave it up to the people, make it a question on the next ballot.

A casino complex is not the main issue,  as the poor will not travel countrywide to go there.

On-line gambling a whole different ball game !

When are the people going to take charge of themselves and make sensible decisions if they should gamble or not.

Study a lot of Behavioral Psychology.  Some people can't prevent themselves from drugs or gambling All the time.  Yes with the right group/family support and motivation they can reduce it.

What is wrong with the Government trying to prevent/help people from doing self or financial harm?

Do you have a better recommendation to determine risky behavior that is reasonable, practical, and will be followed consistently.

I support the Dream that everyone will do the right thing but my training, experience and knowledge have proven some people need assistance

I am not in favour of casinos nor online gambling...but...it cannot by any means be considered a comprehensive survey "when only 1,310 persons were polled given Thailand has ~72 million people with 71% between age 20 and 70

Yes, I have a better idea. That is to build up a protective system like in most countries with gambling problem. Some people will always have problem with their habits. That´s called addiction, and should never be an excuse for not allowing a thing to exist.

Good news to this kingdom.

Looks like the reason of the Thai Voters was well demonstrated.

Casino is often the warm bed for the international/domestic organized crimes; ideal facility  for money laundering of the  illicit earnings(e.g. from drug trafficking).

Also its worst impact on local economy; sucking money out of the town and the country, while creating some jobs to the locals.

Still, in a long term, More Harm Than Good.

It include the increase of gamble addiction among the population.

Self-inflicted  poverty also easily  leads to more money-motive crimes resultingly.

I was thinking a referendum but the military-legislated  Political Act may severely limit freedom of public speech as it did for the 2018 referendum on the proposed new constitution.

A few will make money, hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people will destroy their lives.

Not true, there are casinos here already that we all know of. It is so easy to gamble online, play slots/poker etc. There are illegal poker clubs advertised on social media, owned by senior policemen -  I've been to one.

The worm is already in the fruit!

Online casino sites are perfectly accessible from Thailand, and a growing number of people are already completely hooked.
If you receive a message from a Thai on your MSN or Line like: “Can you help me out with 300 thb? I'll give it back to you tomorrow, I'll receive a transfer, but I've got nothing to eat”.
You then learn that:
1. This person is addicted to slot machines
2. That if you say yes, you won't get your money back (it's rare for a Thai to refund a farang).
3. That your “friendship” with this person is worth 300thb, because once you've given him/her your money, he/she won't talk back. In other words, if you thought you meant something to her/him, bad news: you're actually worth no more than 300thb.

I readily admit I was duped, and I naively said “oh but of course, I can even send you 500thb if you want” 🙄 I told this to a friend who filled me in. And unfortunately, since then I've received other requests. At least it allowed me to sort through my knowledge a bit. If you do a little research on the subject, you realize what a scourge it is.

The story on the old 100thb bill tells of a time when the Thais were betting on anything and everything, and that's how gambling came to be banned.
Asians are notoriously addicted to gambling.
What's more, these sites have highly sophisticated algorithms, impossible to verify, capable of analyzing your gambling style and making you win just enough to keep you playing. What's more, no one keeps books of winnings and losses. You may think you're about to break even, but in fact you're always in the red.
The lottery (official or clandestine) is terrible too. Because when a person wins, everyone sees it, but no one when he loses...
I'm glad these games don't appeal to me at all. I have a Thai friend, married to an apparently very rich Thai, and I've seen her lose 200,000thb a day...all just for the dopamine that winning gives to the brain...

They have open Pandora's box.

Well, the idea of legalizing gambling so that it can be taxed etc. is all sound on paper, but you all know what the caveats are. It's also true that Thailand is losing potential tourist and gaming revenue to its neighbours as they all allow gambling to lesser or greater extents... so, in theory, good idea.

Trouble is, as we all know, there will be massive abuse and shadowy criminality that surrounds such activities, especial in these countries round here, which the authorities simply won't be able to tackle other than on a superficial level with symbolic busts to show they are attempting to control it, but in reality it will be a feeding frenzy of financial crime, scamming, and slavery... plus the age-old problem of "corruption finds a way".

As said, good idea in theory... but when that theory hits reality, then it will be a comical failureon most levels, but good for crime bosses and the rich, which is par-for-course in such places. Good luck with that.

It's ONLY the rich and powerful that want them so they can line their own pockets

FYI:
all those claiming it will hurt/ruin the poor don't get it
for a Thai to enter he / she needs pay 5,000 baht!!!  few poor can afford to enter, much less gamble
Those will simply continue to travel to the casinos on the Burmese, Laos and Cambodian border

Individuals under the age of 20 are prohibited from entering such venues. The complexes are open to all foreigners, but Thais must pay an entrance fee of 5,000 baht.
