Congrats on spelling queue correctly. It drove me crazy because I have a memory malfunction that causes me to have to look up words that I absolutely know. I came up with this: "kew-ee-yew-ee" as a reminder. haha.

"Cue".  Congratulations.  Haha.

James will RIP certainly.  And for the rest of us, LIP.

The words "fundraiser" or "funds" only appeared five times in the article.

I'm convinced that most of the commenters here regard commenting as a blunt contact sport requiring little or no real intelligence. People don't understand the difference between speculation and fact based theories and conclusions. Congrats on spelling queue correctly. Cheers mate, and long happy life to you.

Well yes, spelt correctly indeed.  Just a shame it's the wrong word.  Cue.

I've always found this 'wanting the body' shipped back an odd idea.

Hardly anyone buries bodies in the UK these days, it's always burn and urn.

So why not burn it in Thailand and just ship the ashes?

Yes, a lot cheaper, no fundraising necessary, unless...

A bunch of folks here claimed this guy was just spending his time with bargirls because he left his family home. I advise those folk to walk away in shame

It doesn't seem shameful.

His description in the euphemisms of eulogies describes him as a party animal.

Is coming to Thailand to party and spend time with bargirls shameful?

Not to most people it's not, it's par for the course for a 33 year old unmarried man.

Thai police have yet to release details around the circumstances of the Londoner’s death.

Why the delay?

Free fund

Yes, another kind of popular business. You're not paying for any insurance but get it multiple times back by fundraising.

So?

6 days seems a very short time to go on so long  a journey.   Surely he would be too knackered  (even at  that  young age) to do anything  more strenuous than sit on a bar stool.

seems your issues with this take precedent over his death!

Surely his friends he was going to visit must have some idea of where he was or what he was doing ? 🤔

Yes, "going to visit". He obviously didn't meet them. Because he got different plans?

There is plenty travel insurance available for us$60 for 30 days, includes repatriation of body.

If you can afford to travel to Thailand it's hard to understand why people don't buy travel insurance.

Still RIP young man.

I agree with u. I pay 200£ a year for my travelinsurance. If i die in another country my insurance take care of everything.

Seems strange you would leave your family and travel half way around the world to see a friend. Will be interesting to see what else comes out of the investigation.

Highly unlikely we'll ever hear the full story.  There is rarely any follow-up in the news once they report a person is dead.

There are frequently updates to incidents such as these.

The fact that the RTP are not saying how or why he died suggests foul play which would alarm potential visitors to Thailand...

...or, more likely, it suggests that they do not yet know conclusively

Many policies do include coverage for repatriation of remains in the event of death during travel.

Are those not optional extras customers add to their base policy which typically covers local expenses, then add repatriation for emergency/complex medical, then add repatriation of the body in case of death? That is how I remember them. At 33, most of us don't think about dying overseas.

I would not be surprised to know that ALL policies could include repatriation of the body if the insured added that to the coverage and paid the additional cost. Who does that? Who at that age even considers the chance of dying while on holiday?

I remember buying medivac insurance for a holiday in Cambodia when I was living in Singapore. Guaranteed 24 hours to get me to a Singapore hospital for an extra fee. I've not added a clause like that to travel insurance since.

RIP.

Could be. The family will surely want to know the circumstances of his death.

Would there be a fundraiser if he had died in UK?

Every Brit needs a fundraiser when in trouble. How do they have the money to come to TK?

Well an old friend did just that in January. I hadn’t seen him in 20 years but we kept in touch. He’d just retired this fall. His wife had work, his daughters too, so he came alone.

We had a fine two weeks, but not all time spent together.  Still at 65 no issues even anfter climbing 2 mountains and got home safe. He did have travel insurance.

and if an autopsy shows he died from a self imposed drug OD will all the go funds be refunded?

Why do people travel overseas without insurance?
Families have enough to deal with when a person dies away from home without having to fundraise to get a body home

I leave instructions for NOK to have me cremains in place and scatter the remains wherever it happened, always leave them with the policy details

Cause 'Go-Fundme' is free if things go wrong, insurance costs money.

The world has clued in.
