"Nomad Capitalist" suggests Americans abroad may be headed towards pariah status

As far as Russians in Thailand. they have options here of course because Thailand is friendly to Russia.

But if you dug deeper you would know Russians have very few options of getting residency outside option, and Thailand is crap for them as far as residency.

Most who have fled are here because they can stay awhile but they would much rather find a permanent port which will actually be residence secure such as western Europe, etc.

I refer to Russians because they are big pariahs NOW and so many millions of them have fled or want to.

Americans, you don't want to ever be in their situation or even half as bad as their situtation.

American passport is the most powerful in the world. Only place that doesnt allow us are terrorist countries anyways

Not the most but it's a good passport.

Russian passport used to be a lot better.

Things can change, even for Americans.

Is it so hard to get the point of this topic?

Nonsense.

If you're Russian all you need to do is launder money into real estate in Vancouver, Canada, and you are set!

I can't understand what idiot would give up US citizenship.

How about the transgender who's just been told by the new administration that he/she/it can't play on the womens' soccer team?

What I get of this topic is, if there really is anything for an American in Thailand to worry about, it will happen in Pattaya, Phuket, or ChiangMai first.

53 minutes ago, Jingthing said:

The topic really is very narrow.

About visa treatment, freedom of travel treatment, banking treatment, freedom of money transfers treatment. etc.

Russian expats are being punished because of their government.

In much of the world.

The Nomad Capitalist suggests the Trump's actions (which you absurdly misrepresent) have the potential of biting Americans in similar ways.

He tells us Russians who were smart or lucky enough to take action before 2022 are in much better shape than later Russian expats or wannabes.

He's suggesting based on Trump's behavior, Americans might consider taking a lesson from those smarter or luckier Russians.

That's basically it. Not all this other stupid noise people are posting here that has nothing to do with the topic.

OK, watched it now. It's 10 minutes of the guy swearing he's neutral and then spitting out opinion after opinion on US politics with, frankly, very little evidence.

Strange how a guy who makes his living helping people move their money and get second passports believes that the solution to today's political context is to, wait for it, move your money and get a second passport.

Trump is an absolute dangerous maniac determined to destroy everything aided and abetted by that utter loon Musk

Just HOW any US nationals voted for a convicted criminal is beyond astonishing

If you're savvy enough to make big money he's trying to attract why would you hire him to figure out life for you? Makes no sense to me.

If I was a rich beyatch I'd hire him. He has specialized expertise for that demographic.

But they did so now we're stuck with the momentous damage he's doing.

Then you missed the point of it. Any negative changes in policies towards American expats will happen at national levels.

The question is why would americans want permanent resident status in thailand? The country has no moral compass. They deal with russia china and iran. Thailand will forgive any bad behavior by foreigners for the right price

no love for any particular ideology, deal with western countries too, only concern is making money from all countries.  From the Nomad Capitalist, daily changes of visas, taxes, etal in many countries recently after the OECD agreement signed in 2023..

Same thing happened in 2016, Trump won not because the people really liked him, but that they hated Hillary, this time they hated the Democratic team of Biden and Co. (Kamala), IMHO had the Dems chose a moderate poliician, then that person would have beat Trump.  I sure wouldn't vote for Trump, and didn't in either election but I would never vote for a Democrat due to their policies either.

I think rich folks are mostly looking for help paying less tax?

Otherwise, visa information is readily available online. Or maybe rich folks are too busy and lazy to look it up themselves.

This transgender should consult Nomad Capitalist for a second passport in a country that will allow them to play on a woman's team.

If you fear being a target, move out of the target area. Leave those foreign ghettoes where so many Americans seem to reside. Plenty of nice places exist but they're not next to where expat condos, bars, and feed stores proliferate.

No need to give up U.S. citizenship to have a perm residency or second passport (if the other country allows dual).

Even right wing Americans who have migrated to Russia to be Putin propaganda puppets usually hold on to their U.S. passports even though Russia doesn't recognize dual.

As I understand it, per Project 2025, Trump will end granting dual citizenship.

We can hope anyway.

He’s just doing what he told the people he was going to do.

Thank God we did not get that moronic POC Harris and her idiotic VP choice Walz!!!

That is common poor folk thinking.

It’s about maximizing returns, not minimizing taxes.

Why?

Why what!!! Are you confused again!!!!!

I doubt Thailand has many advantages for Americans. It is far too neutral, or better, middle of the road. Forever trying not to be part of just one side, it tries to take no sides.
