Obese People on Plane Seats.

I realise there is another topic about plane seats right now. But I am only interested in one thing, as someone who has never had a problem with fat people taking up part of my seat, I just want to know what you would do if you were on a flight for about 12 hour's and a very fat person was taking up a part of your seat especially if you were a 6ft tall person weighing around 78 Ks like me.

If I were you, I would put on at least another 20 kg so you can make it a fair fight for the armrest.

Simple answer

You very politely explain the issue to the lead flight attendant and then promptly shut your mouth

Dont add any more conversation

Now they'll obviously try and find you another aisle seat (if that was your original seat) but if they cant they have only one option and thats move you to Biz

You deal with it like any mature person would.  Respectfully.

If the other person were 'so obese' they were overflowing uncomfortably into my seat, I'd quietly speak with the flight attendants and ask if there was a seat I could be moved to with more space.

There you go the only other proper answer to the OP

Actually real chubsters present a clear safety issue. In an emergency evac, do you want to be trapped in your window seat by the lard bucket jammed into the middle/aisle seat? And if he or she can get out of the seat, then they'll plug up the aisle like a cork in a bottle. Plus they'd be much harder to climb over than oldsters or children.

Do we really want to give airlines a reason to charge more.

Let alone the rest of the travel industry.

It would help the obesity problem in society.  At least the lighter person should be able to check-in more suitcases.

You absolutely correct, it makes sense since airlines charge for excess baggage, cos the aircraft burns more fuel, cos of the extra weight, same should go for obese people. Anyone over a certain weight should have to pay extra!

Decent non bigoted human beings object to it....

Someone may be large through no fault of their own - medical conditions etc...

Transporting 100kgs of trim muscle also costs more than a 40kg slim lady...  should the lady get a discount ???....

Most of us are too fat because we eat too much...

obese passengers should be required to purchase two seats

I am only 62 kg, so I usually do not have a problem but just occasionally it is the elbows that annoy me

IMHO, I am 78 years old, and my career sent me around the world many times so a lot of flight time.  I also care about my health and fatties to me have that same opportunity and responsibility to not be obese which is the description of too many people in the "free" world.  I too always put the arm rest down, try to get an aisle seat when making reservations and refuse to let some fast arse sit on part of my seat.  I am not afraid to complain to the flight crew either and do so if there is a problem on a particular flight.  It used to be at least 24 hours to fly from SEA area to Washington DC an my home in Maryland and there is no way I would ever put up with some fattie trying to take up more than their fair share.

either eat too much or also eat the wrong foods/drinks

Totally agree, but who is to say who is obese? The only real way would be for airlines to set and average weight for Male and Female and then set out in its term and conditions if you are over by say 20% say, you need to pay for 2 seats.

This would involve people being weighed at check in, like bags. I can see some folks not liking this idea!

They already charge for these fat people but now YOU are paying for them.

I am overweight but fit into my seat on a plane without disturbing the ones next to me, my biggest problems are due to my broad shoulders and chest(wider than stomach), when I see the ones that are overweight whinging they are huge and its through their own fault, they over eat etc causing massive fat problem with their bodies. These are the ones that whinge the loudest about seat size and demand a free extra seat when they should be made to pay for their oversize bodies caused by themselves, if they cannot fit into a normal seat without disturbing the person next to them they need to pay to purchase a second seat at their own expense, if they dont like then they need to go on a diet and stop pigging out on food so they will fit into them.

My buying business class seats has nothing to do anything other than comfort

I'm too big to sit in ( bogan )  cattle class, it is easier to pay extra and leave the smaller seats to those who want them

As for the grumpy comment , you got it right first time

I feel sad for folk who do not have a sense of humour...anyhow enjoy your day sport 👍

Haven't read all the posts so don't know if it's been mentioned, but Planes, Trains and Automobiles is a great movie. An overweight person who can't stop talking and then removes his socks and starts waving them around while the guy sitting on the other side has his head on your shoulder. Enjoy the flight.

Well theoretically every kilo carried has to be paid for, so if a fat and a thin person are charged the same , fatty is getting subsidised.    So not b/s at all

which is also a mathematical fact, do you really not understand?

Fat people have the right to go business class or book two seats in economy. Why airlines don't charge by weight is beyond the ken.

They don't have a right, the airline will charge them for the extra seat or the upgrade.

They don't charge by weight 'cos that would be seen as discrimination, and they don't want to upset the fat people.

Airlines reserve the right to make the plus sized passenger pay for two seats.

And the fatty gets to have 2 meals, so a win-win for both!
