Hi All, advice on going back it's been 8 years since I was back so it's a 2 week trip leaving in August I'm doing a 90 day report next week should I get a re-entry stamp there or at BKK, taking my 10 year old son with me he has Thai and British passport first time on aircraft for him, any advice would be appreciated thanks

If your immigration office is reasonably quiet/efficient then get the re-entry permit there, otherwise it is a very easy process to get it at BKK.

What is your final destination?  What class of travel do you intend to use?  Where are you located in Thailand?

Anything more about your circumstances and plans while there will get you more focussed replies.

If departing from Suvanabhumi, ask the airport staff where the re-entry office is before you go to the immigration counters.  The office is located at the end of a row of 'standard' immigration counters.  There is usually no/little queue, so don't waste time queuing at the standard counters.

It is located Zone 2 after security and prior to passport control.

It's adjacent left side.

At airport they offer an optional "service fee" 200b and provide tm8 + photo etc so you just hand over pp.

For the boy, use the British passport at check in; use the Thai passport at Immigration in Thailand, use the British passport at Immigration in the UK.

Don't waste money on a multiple reentry permit if it is going to be another 8 years before you go again.

I thought I had to fly out Thailand my son would leave on his Thai passport then in the uk present his British passport

For what it costs I always get a multiple entry......then you have no worries or possible hassle at all.

Get a seat with a bulk head behind you, middle row, aisle seat and the seat next to you.......or 11A

Will, where have you been?... good to see youre here and still going.

OP, have a read of this thread...

https://aseannow.com/topic/1296230-child-going-overseas-without-mother/

It refers to "consent letter" from mother. Has a link to it early in the thread.

Probably not necessary however there for consideration.

He's exiting on his Thai passport, so letter of consent from mum, and take the birth certificate with you too. Birth certificate confirms names of parents match.

That's what @hotandsticky was advising. But at check in, you show the British passport. If you show the Thai one, they'll ask where his visa to enter the UK is.

when i book the flights do i enter my sons British passport number , thanks

They don't always ask but if they do then yes.

And by the way, you will need to do the TDAC arrival card when you return, your son won't need one

I was at CW last week doing my TM47  and as i was there decided to get a re entry permit, took about 45 min, they wanted copies of passport bio page and extension of stay stamp,  i went for the multi entry and it was 3800 baht

That's why doing it at the airport is a good idea. They don't want copies of anything and it takes 10 minutes. And they'll do the application form/photo itself for 200 baht extra.

Correct, except the check-in staff will want to see his UK visa, so use his UK passport at check-in. Passport control may also ask to see his UK passport as there is no visa in his Thai passport. On your return, there is no passport control for passengers leaving the UK, so Check-in with his Thai passport and use same when you arrive in Thailand. You can use the fast track when coming back to Thailand as you are travelling with a child and a Thai citizen.

Currently back in UK for the first time in a couple of years; one thing to note is that using a smartphone Wallet is now the equivalent of paying via QR code scan from your Thai banking app.

I have barely used cash or card since I arrived. Trains, buses, cafes, restaurants, shops, everywhere. If you still have a UK bank account, or a Wise card, add it to Wallet  and it'll make life a lot easier.

No need to arrange.  Just follow the "Priority" signs towards one side at the bottom of the ramp up to immigration.

Fast Track is probably the wrong term now as the original Fast Track is now just for diplomats, aircrew etc and the Priority lane is for most of tose who used to go through Fast Track like Over 70s, Business/First Class etc.

Show the Thai passport when departing  through Thai Immigration and when you return to Thailand use the British Passport when arriving in the UK.

Show the British passport when checking in, with the airline in Thailand.

You will not have a problem my wife has Thai/ Australian passports my daughter Thai/ Australian/UK passports they travel overseas regularly without any issue doing the above.

Took my 10-year-old son back to the UK for a visit back in April.  We flew Emirates via Dubai and it was perfect.  Big A380, easy break in Dubai and great service - a gift for the boy on each leg too!

Have a great trip.

Go to the main passport control entrance, and there is a separate access to the right that says Thai passport holders. That is the fast track you can use. When you get to the top go to the right where you will see parents with children and farangs with their Thai partners etc. Do not attempt to use the auto gates

Not so sure about that.  Airlines report departures to immigration (UK) so much better to check in with the UK passport as that's what he will arrive on.  That will then match the information given when booking the ticket (if applicable).  If the airline has an issue just wave his Thai passport at them.
