Phuket shines as a leading destination for Russian, Chinese, and Indian tourists, raking in approximately 223 billion baht from January to May this year, as reported by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

Kamolphan Chalermsakulrat, TAT Phuket's deputy director, revealed that the island welcomed 5.85 million visitors in the first five months, marking a 3.14% increase from last year. Out of these, 1.59 million were Thai tourists, a 6.73% rise, while international arrivals amounted to 4.26 million, up by 1.86%. This influx generated a total revenue of 223 billion baht (about 6.8 billion USD), a 5.19% improvement from the previous year.

Hotel occupancy remained robust, averaging 82%.

May saw a visitor count of 900,000, with 247,000 Thais and 668,000 foreigners, though international arrivals dipped by 8.8%, resulting in 34.77 billion baht (around 1 billion USD) in revenue, a 2.93% drop from May of last year.

In June, occupancy was at 62.63%, with tourists staying an average of 3.24 nights. The month attracted 1.71 million visitors, split between 582,555 Thais and 1.13 million international guests, generating over 35 billion baht (roughly 1 billion USD).

The top countries contributing to June's numbers included India, Russia, China, Australia, and others. Noteworthy growth was observed from UK and Australian markets. Visitors from Germany, France, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, and the United States also showed increased interest.

Phuket International Airport hosted 7,062 flights in June, with 1.06 million passengers, 317,346 of whom were international.

Throughout the first five months of 2025, the airport managed over 48,000 flights, reaching 95% of their 2019 levels for the same period.

In a bid to keep attracting tourists, Phuket is organising events like the SIP & SURF x Beach Break Kamala from July 25-27, featuring surfing contests and live music. The Coral College initiative on July 24 at Ao Chalong Pier will promote marine conservation. Meanwhile, the Asia Link Sketch Walk Phuket from August 14-17 will gather 777 artists from 26 nations.

As Phuket anticipates a long weekend from July 10 to July 13, it's expected to welcome 199,460 tourists, generating 2.89 billion baht (approximately 88.46 million USD).

These vibrant events and steady tourism figures highlight Phuket’s resilience and appeal as a premier holiday location.

The exact numbers always amuse me with their projections. Anywhere else they'd say approximately 200,000 tourists generating close to 3 billion baht.

But, of course, the TAT calculator is famous for its magical figures!

Good reason to avoid Phuket like the plague.

Every other week there's an article here about tourism diving and then the next week there's an article about it surging.

It can't be both.

I dont see them and Im in Phuket, almost everyone I talk to say it's quiet, even local contractors are telling me they are quiet, it will be busy for the next few days f the holiday but that is mostly Thai's,

Two massage shops I know near to where I live, yesterday not one customer, I can see a block of condo's from my bedroom virtually no lights on at night,
