In a tech-savvy crackdown, Thailand's government has unleashed "TISI Watch," an AI-driven system targeting dodgy products online. Aimed at boosting consumer safety and ensuring fair play in e-commerce, this initiative seeks to uphold stringent Thai Industrial Standards.

Deputy spokeswoman Sasikarn Wattanachan revealed that the scheme, spearheaded by Industry Minister Akanat Promphan, kicked off on July 7. Operating round-the-clock, TISI Watch examines suspicious product links, enforcing compliance with regulations.

In just five months of piloting, more than 125,000 dodgy links have been flagged, with over 2,800 yanked from the web. Currently, 777 legal cases are in progress, many involving major e-commerce platforms. Common offenders include food-grade plastics, children's toys, power strips, and motorcycle exhausts, all posing considerable safety hazards.

Next steps for TISI Watch involve tackling counterfeit goods and bogus licences. Public support is encouraged through the "Report to Industry" Line account.

This proactive approach highlights Thailand's commitment to maintaining safe and honest digital marketplaces, demonstrating how technology can play a crucial role in safeguarding consumer interests.

The power tools section of shopee is unbelievable,   cordless drills advertised as 199volts !!   and many listed as Makita for a ridiculously low price, and even the photos of the product clearly show the "brand name" and its certainly not Makita

I recently got scammed from Lazada, case is still under investigation.

A so-called Bangkok trader with a reputable site selling electrical products, shown as in stock.

Sourced the item from China, as the item had to pass through customs on departure from China & entry to Thailand.

Upon delivery I got a pair of socks...

The kicker is you have to except them to go through the refund process.

Lazada really needs to get it's act together and get these scammers off their platform

Agree.

Anything not from Lazmall stands every chance of being fake

Honda and De Walt are big targets for the Chinese counterfeiters.

I had to return a lawnmower, strimmer and hammer drill before I learned my lesson.

I learnt my lesson too,

Gave Lazada a pass, bought the same item from Home-Pro, delivered two days later.

Laz just lost a customer

I'm quite happy with Lazada products

Lot of expensive Honda and De Welt items sold not from the Lazmall side are copies.

Get rid of all the fakes and there won't be much left. Asia runs very well on corruption, why try and fix that which works? And think of all the smugglers and corrupt officials whose income will be affected.

I recently bought an Audemars Piguet watch on Lazada, fake of course. Amazing quality and value. The vendor has now been shut down. Sad state of affairs when your corrupt Asian can't make a living.

yes, I bought some parts for my CRV. I'm sure they are copies. But they do their job. The price was ok for me. Why pay more for plastic😂

Strimmer used more oil than petrol, mower was murder to start, hammer drill had no chuck lock......to tighten it you had to hold the chuck by hand and run the drill with a low torque setting........all sent back.

I did a couple of hundred transactions on Lazada and was never disappointed.  That said, I avoided the products and shops that were too good to be true.  I can't understand why they don't sweep through their offerings with an algorithm that automatically deletes items that are listed at impossible prices, then boots those vendors.

Like a 512G SD card for 300 baht.  Or a Makita battery operated power drill for 159 baht.

That alone would eliminate a bunch of heartache.

If it would not be so easy to send items back I would not order that much.

But sometimes you get really bad luck. The latest was a flying chain off the saw machine. Or a faulty extension lead. <deleted> happens. But before I got many months with no returns. Fingers crossed.

it's easy to find out. Not about the price. That's nonsense.

But go to product details. There you will find "Brand" or No Brand.

If it's brand. Buy it. Even with a low price.

Congratulations. You've just made it painfully obvious that you have zero idea as to how Lazada works.

I have the same experience with Lazada and continue to buy there.

I won’t shop at Lazada for any high ticket items anymore. The last time I was looking for an expensive GPU, 95% of the shops after placing the order, would contact me on the Lazada chat and tell me to go over to LINE app once on line, they would ask for 50% to be sent to their bank account before they will send the goods. This is their way of getting you off Lazada system so that if you send money, Lazada can do nothing to help you. I have informed Lazada of over 100 of these GPU  scammers over the years and when I tell you that Lazada would rather I not report them as they would do their best not to close these stores down but prefer to give them warnings. Even with 110% proof of fraud shown in screenshots from inside Lazada chat, Lazada will keep the store open.

Exactly my experience also. They are very well aware of the scams going on, they just aren't bothered

I find that statement very difficult to believe as it has never happened to me over the many years that I have used them.  I have bought some fairly expensive (over 20,000bht) items in that time!

I received an empty cardboard box when I ordered a product from Ali Express.  I did manage to get a refund though.

TISI charges horrendus fees for license exemptions for electrical products where a Thai importer has already got approval for the model.  I payed THB 2,500 for an exemption for an electronic drum module.  If there is not existing approval for the product, you have to pay for the testing yourself which could run to THB 100,000.  However, AFAIK this is no likely to happen with something valued at under THB 40,000 which involves a more detailed customs clearance procedure with the buyer having to register with customs as an importer for some reason.
