Been in Thailand long time? If they print a receipt you need to change bars.🙃🙃

If you are looking for cheap beers, 2 bars in Jomtien and 1 Pratumnak have 39 baht bottles, between midday and 7pm.    I avoid, too many people, noisy, cigarette smoke, not a place I want to

They are charging 160 Thai baht for a small bottle of Chang beer. This could be the most expensive in Thailand, can anyone trump this price?

Even Indian frequented clubs ask for more than double that in Pattaya.  (Not my pic).

You fresh off the boat?
Was there a cover charge for the live music? No.

Suggest you join a 7-Eleven street party.

No I've lived in Thailand for 8 years, I was recommended the place by an expat who lives near to the bar as he loves blues music and the vibe of the place. I enjoyed it too! Yes they are obviously including the cover charge in the price of the drinks which I have no problem with 😀 I am new to this forum and just wanted to make my first post that would be most likely to get a fair number of responses!

The drinks at Sky Bar Bangkok are expensive for Bangkok standards, but it is important to remember that you are paying for the unrivaled views of the city and the exclusive atmosphere. Additionally, the higher drink prices at Sky Bar help to keep the crowds away as it is by far the most famous rooftop bar in Bangkok.

Prices for drinks range anywhere from about ฿300 to ฿850 THB

Yes I love the Sky Bar, been there quite a few times.

Then you would know that the 160 THB for a Chang is not the most expensive already.

How much is Hoegarden in Bangkok these days? 300, 350,

Bars are strange places with strange people.

I know a few guys who live around the corner, in another gated housing estate. I see these guys, huddled together every afternoon, drinking, talking, no chicks, just old angry men, bloody hilarious. 😂

I think they are doing what THEY want to do, not what you want them to do........🤔

Try Vietnam - all beers 50% cheaper than their Thai equivalents.

Same in most of SE Asia. Plus the beer in some (e.g. Laos, Philippines, Myanmar) is way better!

I'm not a fan, but still prefer it over any Thai beer.

Pretty much so, in Thonglor recently it was 420 baht though did get a free bowl of popcorn, 7 street in Mega Bangna usually has offers that work out about 320 baht if you drink enough

I tend to agree with that there are now many rooftop bars in Bangkok, and the ones with the truly extraordinary views can get away with charging that kind of money for drinks, but as you say you're going there for the atmosphere and the views, and you know in advance you're going to be paying high prices for the drinks.

Bearing that in mind you're paying about the same as you would pay at a normal, nothing special bar in Los Angeles for a cocktail.

As far as normal bars go here you visit a place like that once, and then you show your preferences with your feet, by doing an anti-piracy shuffle out the door, and never coming back.

Wow! I'm not surprised the Indians get the straws out looking at those prices.

And much better tasting too..

All the posts about beer prices in Pattaya and Jomtien are pointless comparisons to Bangkok. The rents/leases for all businesses here (including bars) are going to be much, much higher in Bangkok than Chonburi. Overheads too. Thus higher prices for beer and everything else. The price of a pint of Stella in Bangkok would make your eyes water - but you probably can't find that in Patters. In fact, haven't been there for a while, but I bet Heineken draft is a bit hard to track down there too, unless you go to a pub.

Op, I was paying 2-300 for a small Thai dishwater beer 20y ago in the Banyan Tree. 160 baht even in a slightly above standard place in Bkk is probably fairly normal now, since Thailand is grossly overpriced on the alcohol front. Look at it in comparison with similar Vietnamese places.
As for Lebua Tower, great views but they charge those stupid prices ‘because they can’ and it was in Hangover 2. It is way more expensive than the Baccarat Bar under Harrods, for instance, which is proper class.

Glad I went to these places back in the early 00's when prices were much more reasonable and the baht was so much weaker. Back then with 70+ £/฿ rates it was only about £4 for a sunset beer at Banyan Tree. Views are just fantastic.

I don't understand how OP thinks this is a topic of discussion.

Has he never been out in Thailand before?

Does he not check drink prices before ordering?

Strange.

"Has he never been out in Thailand before? "

Has he never been out anywhere before?

Noticed the drinks were very expensive last time I stayed there but the food was a reasonable price . Stopped staying there after got bitten to death by bedbugs , although I'm sure was a rare thing there as stayed before several times with no problem.

TBH in any country the prices at a high-end bar or restaurant will be high - and they might charge taxes & service charge on top.

I was at Vertigo bar on the Banyon Tree rooftop several years ago.  A small bottle of Singha was ฿300.  No idea what it would be nowadays.

Go back and read the thread.  The cover charge comment was made in relation to the OP and not to your post on one customer being charged more than another.
