Not victim blaming in any way but it would be good to know if she was wearing a helmet.

  • This reads like it's  harsher penalties for Farang and less so for Thai?. so if i Thai rider kills a Foreigner / Tourist  & pleads " no have money" for compensation then its ok..

  • With the ladys death his bail will most likely be revoked and he will be locked up until a whole lot of money is payed to the girls family.....I certainly hope his family is well off....If not....He i

Parents will need to pay but more likely on benefits so a gofundme will follow

Why more likely to be on benefits?

He was just out for a bit of fun but then that happened.

He should be treated exactly as a Thai accused and presumably convicted. Not better. Not worse. The same.

Last thing a farang wants to do while driving in Thailand, is to drive recklessly like other Thai's do, don't add another dynamic to the already dangerous and unsafe roads. Take the high road, defensive driving is the only way to survive driving here, too many offensive drivers here already. Welcome to consequences, was it worth it?

A British man is expected to face new charges after a Thai woman, who was left critically injured in a motorbike crash, allegedly caused by his reckless riding, has died in hospital.

The fatal crash occurred on Soi Bongkot 8 in Pattaya on the night of 14 August, when witnesses reported seeing the foreigner performing dangerous stunts and wheelies on a motorbike before colliding with the victim, who had been riding along the same road.

The Thai woman, Ms. Jurairat Phettratsa, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a local hospital, where she remained in critical condition for several days. Despite doctors’ efforts, it was confirmed on the afternoon of 17 August that she had passed away.

The British suspect initially denied all wrongdoing when questioned by police, but multiple eyewitness accounts, together with CCTV footage from the scene, directly contradicted his statement. Authorities confirmed that the rider’s passport has been flagged, meaning he cannot leave Thailand while the investigation and legal proceedings are ongoing.

Police say the man had already been facing significant charges relating to reckless driving and endangerment, as well as owing compensation to the victim and her family. With her death, prosecutors are expected to upgrade the charges, which could include causing death by dangerous driving under, a crime that carries far more severe penalties.

Local residents have expressed anger and frustration at the incident, describing the victim as an innocent road user whose life was cut short by irresponsible behaviour. Social media has also seen a surge of criticism, with calls for stricter enforcement against reckless riding and harsher punishments for foreign offenders in Thailand.

Police officials in Pattaya confirmed that the case remains under active investigation and that a full report will be forwarded to prosecutors once all evidence has been reviewed. The suspect remains on bail but under strict legal conditions.

"also seen a surge of criticism, with calls for stricter enforcement against reckless riding and harsher punishments for foreign offenders in Thailand".

My question is what about the crazy driving that we all see on the roads by locals?

Totally agree there should be stricter enforcement against reckless driving, it should be applied to everyone in Thailand, just need the BIB to do there job.

He will pay his way out and be out of Thailand within two months. The police will guide him down this path. A Thai with cash would also pay his way out of detention in the same situation.

If you want to do wheelies, I would suggest Bong Kot Soi 8 is probably one of the worst choices of where to do it. It is a complete rat run with vehicles coming out of entrances and side turnings throughout. Moronic.

Just toss him in jail and forget about him.

What is the Brit's name? Isn't the name usually published?

Makes me think he will be able to pay his way out.

If only he had bike insurance...another problem for these lunatics.. insurance payout of 500,000 to 3rd parties on basic pokicy

He was on an electric dirtbike (SurRon UltraBee) so I don't think insurance would be available since they are not able to be registered for road use in Thailand. His specifically had no plate.

and you know this how? What a strange thing to say with no facts or even speculation..

It's a known fact electric bikes are favoured by pot heads in UK...and also the amount of pothead shops down that soi is another pointer. Unfortunately, police don't test for pot, so likely we will never know but my own personal observations on Jomtien beach the place is a nightmare with stoned up dopeheads pulling wheelies everywhere...so yes, you could probably assume he was off his rocker on some mind altering ganga

Exactly, if it was an insured motocy, insurance will pay out 500,000 to 3rd parties in the event of death, so he would have a bit of cover there...

So.....nothing about all the local reckless, irresponsible riding every minute of every day on the roads. Yes, if he is guilty charge him, but look to yourselves before you start pointing the racist finger at every foreigner who as an accident.

He can't use his passport; have they confiscated his driving licence?

If he had one - the motorcycle was, apparently an electric "dirt bike", unregistered and not "street legal" in Thailand.

He is in the deep pooh, but through his stupidity killed am innocent person. No sympathy.

fine   as long as it clearly states that it is about the tiny minority of "crazy" brits who in no way represent the vast majority     You should stop your racist rants

What I wrote is not a racist rant, but a reaction to the overrepresentation of idiots from the specific category I mentioned. As many as they are in the news on a weekly basis, one might actually believe they are a big part of the representation of the nation.

He has no critical thinking skills.....and will now have to deal with this forever.

He and his sort will go through the rest of his life convinced that it was not his fault and he was unfairly treated. They always do.

When he is eventually released expect a " my hell in a Thai prison story".

Another one of them... Thais do it, so OK for farangs. :bah:

And the suspect had the audacity to deny all wrongdoing when questioned by police.

Of course. If he wasn’t visiting the Kingdom then it would never have happened.

Foreigner is a race? Also, "accident" is a rather gentle term for this result of reckless behavior.
