A recent survey by the National Institute of National Administration (NIDA) has uncovered that over half of Thai respondents want to distance Thailand from its neighbour, Cambodia. A significant 64.73% also believe global superpowers are meddling in the border dispute, aiming to further their own agendas.

Poll interviews, completed on August 18th and 19th with 1,310 participants, sought public opinion on the ongoing tensions between Thailand and Cambodia. Results revealed 44.96% of those questioned see the border row as abnormal and concerning.

Meanwhile, 29.15% suspect dubious motives behind what they view as a normal dispute. Only a small fraction, 2.14%, perceive no issues at all, reported Thai PBS World.

Among the respondents, 54.12% voiced that Cambodia is a country with which Thailand should sever ties. Conversely, 29.39% think association is possible but are wary of trust.

A small minority, 14.20%, considers Cambodia an outright enemy, while only 1.91% maintains that the two nations are still friendly neighbours.

Opinions on superpower involvement are equally telling. An overwhelming 64.73% suspect interference is self-serving. A minority of 8.85% feel these powers aim to restore peace.

Meanwhile, 17.10% urge rejection of such interference, and 6.11% doubt any genuine interest from these nations to intervene.

How will Thailand distance itself from Cambodia, move the border?

First Myanmar, now Cambodia, looks like ASEAN solidarity is shaky.

It was never close anyway. Any discussion is just to benefit one side and the exchange is never equal or fair.

This whole shambolic episode is caused by two individuals, Hua Sen and Thaksin. Former friends who now want to destroy the other. The Thai people are expected to demonstrate their patriotism as they’re fed BS in the media about the situation and encouraged to believe it’s all Cambodia’s fault. It’s not, it takes two to tango.

Perhaps - maybe get those dual Nationalities innocently born on the fence to choose a side also.

Nida better poll, methinks.

Daily trade goes on between the two countries, and the citizens benefit from it. I'm thinking many of these respondents have nothing to do with the daily trade, and live far away from the border itself,  so will vote against it because they only hear the bad news about the border conflicts. Those that live close or next to the border benefit from the trade between. There are also thousands of workers who either go to Cambodia for work or come from there to Thailand. The same with any bordering countries that have experienced skirmishes in their history. Time to learn to get along and get rid of those who's agenda is power and control.

Extremely poor leadership on the Thai side led to this debacle of a Kindergarten character. It furthermore underlines the danger of social media - the main source of information for most Thais these days. The elder folks resort still to TV and that is biased as well.

The Thaksins and the Huns are fighting a battle over face and reputation and the only thing unclear to me is that telephone call between sweetheart darling prime minister on the Thai side and Hun Sen.

The Thai PM, inexperienced and operated strictly as per instructions of the puppet master in the background, never made that phone call without consulting Daddy first, given the script and an explicit approval.

Unknown remains, what exactly was the purpose of this phone call? Did she (on Dr. T's behalf) whine over what? Is is the brittling coalition in the government, the various legal cases against Daddy (some of them resolved meanwhile without surprises), was it a kick towards the uncrowned king of Buriram, was it to put Anutin back into his corner?

But yeah, this is Thailand and its people have to know what is best for them. As an outsider looking in I - for sure - know, that the present path is wrong, it is about face, it is about destruction and mistrust and it will take a generation to iron out all these wrinkles.

The Cambodians are led by an even worse crook but after 30 years of war, four years of genocide, most Cambodians are glad to be alive and make ends meet - most of the time.

Nationalistic Rubbish for the Sheeple.   Next thing will be Razor Wire Fencing and Loudspeakers across the Border !

All the Cambodian people have to do is depose Hun Sen and Hun Manet, problem solved.

Whereas the Thai military cannot be deposed.

Similar sentiment here in Cambodia with many Khmers saying good riddance Thailand!

Yesterday's protest march in Siem Reap by thousands of people (including foreigners and ex-pats), led by monks, for the release of 18 Khmer soldiers captured by the Thai military AFTER the ceasefire began and asking for Donald Trump's  intervention (hence the USA flags along with Cambodian flags).

No further comment from me.

Kind of hard to do that. It's right next door, lol

Build a beautiful big wall...

Show them the trade figures & they may change their tune.

They are neighbours & a healthy trade surplus with Cambodia (which Thailand desperately needs)

needs to continue, so a few heads being banged together to knock some sense into them is in order on both sides.

To even suggest that it is all Cambodia's fault just shows a lack of education & brainwashing

How?

Thailand and Cambodia will always be neighbours. This can't be changed. Many times you don't really like your neighbour but you manage to get along.

Yes, they will provide easements of 1 foot from the border.

No matter who is right or wrong, Thailand stands to lose unless the parties learn to get along fast.

Cambodia is a sponge, a whole country that produces basicly nothing and needs everyhting. What Thailand loses Vietnam gains. They all hate each other equally, but the Viets have learned that business, not personal wealth and power come first. Guess where the western foods are coming from now? Guess where the imports are coming from?

The Thais are being outsmarted. Like the Chinese are learning.

They tried that and stepped on landmines.

In Si Sa Ket, on the Thai side of the border.

Hun Sen, the dictator, maintains an iron grip on Cambodian citizens.

PHNOM PENH (Reuters) -Cambodia's parliament passed a law on Monday that will allow people convicted of treason to be stripped of their citizenship, a new measure that comes amid a sustained crackdown on opponents of the long-ruling Cambodian People's Party.

The law, approved by 120 of the 125 members of the CPP-dominated National Assembly, will allow the state to revoke the citizenship of anyone convicted of conspiring with foreign countries or plotting against Cambodian interests.

Many prominent political figures have fled Cambodia to avoid arrest amid intensified efforts to stifle the CPP's opposition in the wake of the Supreme Court's 2017 banning of the Cambodian National Rescue Party ahead of an election the following year.

Cambodia passes law to revoke citizenship of people convicted of treason

Cambodia has since held mass trials involving more than 100 opposition figures, with many jailed in absentia on treason and incitement charges.

As I thought. I didn’t believe that Thai soldiers would cross over and abduct/ kidnap Kmer soldiers .It would have been a really stupid thing to do.
Hun Sen is very dangerous, I’ve worked years with Cambodians who have an education and they left as soon as they could. Gave up everything they had in Phnom Penh. Thailand is much stronger and I doubt they will ever make any bad action against any neighboring countries.

Just hope the Thais dont start singing from the river to to the sea, oh river to Vietnam!

🤣🤣🤣
